The VDV signing (apparently its 80% going through) is not enough to save Levy IMO. He should step down. Left us with nothing for qualifying and competing in the Champions League.

I hope the VDV signing doesn't go through. VDV has the hottest WAG in football but apart from that he won't offer us anything new. I fear Harry will play Bale at LB and shift Modric to LM.

Levy and Redknapp are equally to blame IMO. This transfer window has been an utter waste of time.

VDV would be our best player. He is a World class midfielder.

I don't think it allows us the flexibility that we wanted by signing someone like Fabiano which was to allow us to play 4-5-1.

Why all the doom and gloom?

GK - Gomes (Pletikosa) hopefully better back up than Cudicini
RB - Corluka
CB - Gallas/King. the experienced head at the back
CB - Dawson/Bassong. quality near an experienced partner
LB - Bale. Hard to defend against a LB, could be Cashley Cole like with a long enough stint
RM - Lennon. No longer the 1 attacking threat going forward, double teaming should occur less
CM - Huddlestone. Potentially the Xabi Alonso of England according to some journalists
CM - Van Der Vaat. Another great passer of the ball, a lethal shot, dead ball specialist & good dribbler IIRC.
LM - Modric. IMO played his best football cutting in from the left, will also work well with an attacking LB like Bale
ST - Defoe/Giovanni. These two have to be preferred to Keane as the "little" striker
ST - Crouch (Pav). With the quality in midfield long balls shouldn't be the norm. Both are decent enough but in a perfect world an upgrade would come in.

Bench has quality all over it. Pletikosa, Bassong, BAE, Bentley/Giovanni, Sandro/Palacios, Kranjcar, Pav

Can see Sandro/Palacios coming in for Defoe for tricky away games.

Absolutely nothing wrong with our goalkeepers, defence and midfield. Our depth in those areas is excellent.

But when your strikers are Crouch, Defoe, Pav and Keane heading towards the CL group stages and another battle for 4th, serious questions have to be asked of Levy and Redknapp. Our strikers look horribly out of their depth against the top clubs.

Defoe is a good finisher and with the supply he should get from that midfield he will have another good season.

The other 3 have never really ran hot consistently enough, but would a Huntelaar be any better. His goals to game avg outside of Holland isnt great, Fabiano snubbed us hardly Levy or Redknapps fault, Forlan was overpriced, not alot is known about that Remy, and lets face it Adebayor was never going to sign. Rossi and Suarez would of been ideal

VDV would be a great signing. but IMO we still need a striker! although we could put a VDV/Modric behing a lone striker in crouch or even pav which could have some success. Maybe we will get an upgraded striker in the Jan transfer window..

You would like to hope Harry will go looking for a striker in January.

It leaves Corluka and Modric exactly where they were before.

nico is a great option to have for us for depth and we are certainly going to need it this year.

I haven't seen him play at LB much but he looks comfortable up the field. I've only been following the EPL for a couple of years but based on what I've seen, he looks extremely dangerous running into the goals and I think other teams would worry more if he was playing LM/LW compared to playing at LB.

The running flank duo of Bale and Lennon sounds pretty awesome as well.

He was playing left back for us last season...It first came to prominence when BAE went to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Which at the time BAE was one of our best players so far and a few people were worried about bale coming and loosing a quality LB for a month. A few months later and Bale is one of the best left sided players in the league:thumbsu:

It is his best position and would get rid of BAE and his 1 great game, 1 shit game philosophy . I'm sure you are being sarcastic but Bale with extra room to run at defenses is something I look forward to.
Deadly serious. Much less effective at LB going forward, and in defense IMO.

He's probably your biggest attacking threat at the moment so moving him further away from goal is good news as far as I can see.

He can get closed out at LM but at LB he has room to run at the defense which is when he is close to unstoppable.

Leaving wonderful gaps in your defense, and in all likelihood a player on the wing that isn't capable of providing the support to the left back that Bale did.

Personally I think moving Bale to defense weakens you both ways, but only time will tell.

Any news on Dawson, the Gallas signing will be a bit more popular if it's a long termer. If it is a bad one I can see it hurting Spurs even with Gallas slotting straight in.

Gallas/King is OK, but when Ledley is missing Gallas/Bassong starts to look a bit dodgy. Another injury or two before January and it's getting scary.

no word yet, waiting on scans I believe but minimum looks to be a month, max is the season.

Bassong needs to step up.

Months without Dawson is one of the worst things that could have happened.

When King is out we have a Gallas/Bassong partnership at CB most likely...
