I think he came out with that because Paul Merson said he reckoned he was regretting taking the job. Probably just Goona envy. Levy has backed him pretty well for a January window, but the litmus test comes in the next window. I’m not calling it either way, but if pushed I’d say he’ll get pretty decent funds but you never know with Daniel

Found this on Fighting utensil.

ere’s Diers stats this season:

Under Poch he didnt play in 9 of the 12 PL games.
In the 9 games he was absent, we conceded 11

PL: played 90 twice, L1,
D1 (played as a CB)
Came on for 12 minutes, W1

CL:
played 22 minutes Won
played 90 minutes Won (played as a CB)

Carabou: played 90 minutes Lost (played as a CB, didn’t concede in the game)

In the 4 games he took part in under Poch we conceded 4.
Dier did not spend 1 second on the pitch for the 2-7 game.
He played 90 minutes of the 3-0 loss at Brighton.

Of the 9 PL games under Poch that Dier did NOT play:
W2 L3 D4

Under Jose:

PL...P8
Played 90 mins x 4 - Won 4
Played 45 mins - Lost subbed off at 0-2
Played 34 mins - Won subbed on at 1-0 up
Played 6 mins - Won subbed on at 2-0
Played 14 mins - Won subbed on at 2-1

CL
Played 29 mins - Won subbed off at 2 down
Played 81 mins Lost

FA
Played 90 mins - drew (played as a CB)
Played 85 mins - Won
Played 90 mins - Won

P13 W10 L2 D1 (above is a detailed break down of his minutes on the pitch)

In those 13 games, we conceded 14 goals.

Games Dier didn’t play under Jose:
P5 W0 L3 D2
In those 5 games we conceded 6 goals

Take the piss all you want about him, but you haven’t really got a case.
It’s not coincidence, or in spite of him.

It’s a simple fact that we are better off using a DM. No more, no less.

The use of him is up for reasoned debate, but the stat without him is not really up for debate now is it. Given Wanyama and Sissoko are out atm that essentially means that in 5 games under Jose without a DM on the pitch we have 2 points from 5 games.

He just has to play until the end of the season from here. We will not win many matches with 3 progressive players in midfield. We need a shield of some description

We dont have the backline to not run a dm. Our full backs are adept at attacking from the flanks. So that 3rd body to drop back is critical.
Play dier until seasons end
If we need to/can, then replace.

Fifth is still a big ask imo. Plus, of course the appeal procedure will probably reinstate City even if it is only temporarily

When was the last time we bought a marquee player? Anyway, no one wants to talk about spurs on here at the moment so take it to our thread if you wish to continue
Fine! I will bring it here.
Define marquee.

By my reckoning we've beaten or equalled our record signing 4 times this decade gone.
Lamela 30m. Sissoko 30m. Sanchez 42m. Ndombele 62m

This last decade gone by numbers:
Year [Revenue | Profit | Retained earnings | Loans - Pounds ] | Transfer spend (euro)
2010119m-6.6m34.7m74m26m
2011163.5m0.69m35.4m76m9.5m
2012144m-4.2m30.8m84m73m
2013147m1.5m32.3m57m122m
2014180m65.2m97.6m35m48m
2015196m9.3m106.9m31m71m
2016210m33m139m125m84m
2017309m41m176m180m122m
2018380m112.9m289m460m0.00m
2019521m (1)N/AN/AN/A181m

1. Twitter: Swiss Ramble Feb 11

So in the decade just gone we have increased revenue (thanks to EPL TV money and CL participation) from 119m to 521m (above Arsenal and Chelsea).

In 5 of the 9 reported profits we have made less than 10m or made a loss. 3 of the biggest 4 profits have occurred during a period where we built a training facility and stadium.

During the first 5 years where people on here *cough* go you pups *cough* and on the twittersphere blamed the club for undermining Redknapp and AVB and leaving us short for top 4 pushes... We had no more than 32m of retained profits and more than double that in bank loans. Seems they didn't really screw them after all, just were acting responsibly. Remember, we didn't have CL revenue in this period. Barring the Bale window transfer spends were among the lower figures in the period. Again, without much money being retained and more being owed. Go figure more money was spent on transfers once CL football started being attained.

Last half of the decade saw revenues balloon with CL revenue, new TV deals and better commercial arrangements by the club (nike etc). But so did loan debt, transfer spending and retained profits (hoarded to pay off debts).

Gone from being lucky to get 4th. To getting top 4 regularly. To now (if this thread is an indication) being livid if we can't attain top 4.
All the while building a state of the art training and lodge facility. New stadium as well.

That's just about the point really, there is scarce evidence other than believing two bit hack journo's that the club is putting profits over football. Most importantly in the Louis Saha and Ryan Nelson period. They probably are keeping some money back now but that is to be expected. Our 1bn pound stadium has outstanding debts to be paid.

Please Zidane98 before you believe the claptrap my mistaken comrades believe, remember, they don't think for themselves, merely believe hack journos and unfounded tweets. They seriously believe all the "Levy is haggling over xxx amount" tweets that get let out. Probably believe the 3m + Wanyama for Grealish scuttlebutt too no doubt.

MOST IMPORTANTLY. This is an example of a well run club, the model you, WealstoneRaider, say that City should have followed, and yet it has garnered 0 trophies and according to you (all season long) a total squad overhaul is now needed. Doesn't paint the picture that this model works now does it, in the context you're arguing that is. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Please, stop chatting s**t.

Happy enough with that before bed. Go in ahead. Hope to wake up and Jose’s tactics have ensured we see this through.

Only one long range shot on goal from Villa so far so that is a positive. Happy to have Ben back in the side. Bergwijn looking good. Dele so so wasteful. Sonny is not a good pen taker. Winks has been good

Only one long range shot from Villa? You having a ******* laugh or what? Pretty dreadful take on the game except your comment about Dele and Son’s penalty taking ability
Clean your glasses and re-read. I said only one long shot ON GOAL and that was the one that Lloris stopped.

flashscore, epl website, BBC all reporting Aston Villa shots on goal: 1

Dreadful aye? So you don’t think Bergwijn has been good? Or Winks? Or that it is good to have Ben back?
