More chance of it being Ted Lasso if Levy is handling the negotiations.
Harsh. His one gift is hiring managers, has plenty of practice by now.
Backing them once here. Must of missed that topic in football owners school.

I still think Enrique or nagelsmann
Ange 3rd in line

Not really opposed to any
Ange could be fun. Enrique brings pedigree
Nagelsmann im dubious on still.

Preference is Enrique and we adopt the 433 he ran at barca.

We don’t have the chops to play under Enrique. Enrique’s system requires technically sound players. We don’t have such players. Enrique is a top manager but in my opinion he is not the best fit for us.

I have no earthly idea why we are not pulling out all stops for Nagelsmann.

Let me answer! I know!

Us in a nutshell.

"The manager who we sacked six days before a final and who has won a trophy everywhere he’s been including the year after he left, is now in another final facing a former player of ours and our current player who we paid £20m plus the former player for, before we sent him back on loan to the club we bought him from so that he can play with our former player in the final against our former manager".

facetious reasoning, and i've seen it a bit

Jose was a nice experiment. But it failed.
Roma finished 6th in Serie A, and would have been 7th if not for Juve's penalty.

If Conte couldn't fix this side, Jose wouldn't have fared better

And anyone who suggests Lamela and Gil were the difference between CL and no europe....please.

Us in a nutshell - mentally weak squad, chairman who interferes too much, no DoF, owner absent.
It's all linked
Owner who invests as per other winners' owners
Chairman who enables a DoF/manager & invests in a squad that can win it
Manager who can then take that squad over the line

We had it with Poch and Mitchell imo. Those 2 windows we didn't buy anyone (whoever is to blame for that) started a downward spiral.

I don't think anybody is suggesting that Erik Lamela and Bryan Gil are the difference between Europe and no Europe.

It seems more an observation of our terrible decision making. It's a perversely humorous example of how ridiculous the THFC and it's Chairman is. Under a DoF who Daniel Levy knew (or should reasonably have known) was a criminal we did in fact end up giving Seville a bounty of Lamela, Gil and 25m yet got absolutely nothing in return. Literally gifted it to them. It sums us up. All that is missing is the Benny Hill music.

we still own Gil. Key will be can he net us more than the value of Lamela, who was probably not worth much at the time, and 25m?
File under Sarr, Spence, Sess, etc. buy low, sell high gambits....of which few have come off since Mitchell left (did Mitchell scout Bale and Modric?)

It does raise a good question.
Our scouting and investment are very misaligned, and it undermines any manager we hire.
Levy likes the ROI signings. Managers want the quality, but we seem to fall somewhat short.

Ambition is securing Dias, De Ligt, De Jong, Donnarumma, Bruno when they become available.
Over falling short with Sanchez, Ndombele, Gio who still cost a bundle.

Levy's review of his approach should be the sunk cost for no return vs. the greater investment for better returns
i.e. is 25m saved on a signing really worth it when that asset becomes worthless a year later, whilst the better signing is now worth more.
e.g Bruno v Ndombele, De Ligt/Dias v Sanchez, and so forth.

citizen-erased see The Cryptkeeper's perfect response. I wasn't suggesting anything else than a rather humorous yet depressing snapshot into some of our transfer dealings

If Mourinho was able to put the same level of effort into our conference league run than he did this with Roma, we might have beaten the mob with their manager in jail and won that trophy
i sometimes wonder if not winning that cup is better than winning it
I mean, it is a trophy. but it's a bit of a joke that would really just cement the level of underperformance we've had this century :p

And not as if he's won anything at Roma either.

Move the jokes from winning nothing to winning a tinpot trophy. But who are we trying to kid even us that hate the Conference League on the other side of the world would make life changes to make sure we'd watch the semi final and final if Spurs had made it

On Gil, we loaned him out and brought in Danjuma who does exactly the same job but not as well. Gil is a very good player that we own but no longer wants to be here. There is no way we recoup what we paid for him (say 35m in total when you factor Coco in). We have absolutely zero leverage. The only way we fatten Gil up for sale is to bring him back and actually play the guy. But he doesn't want to come back so we will end up with N'dombele MKII only the player in question this time might actually be really, really good. You don't get fast tracked into the Spain national team at 20 if you are a spud yet we didn't bother to develop him because idiot Levy (who lately specialises in buying low and selling lower, or just gives players away) then hired 2 successive managers who have zero interest in developing young players. Rinse and repeat, as you say with Spence, Sarr, Bissouma and so on. Thankfully Udogie stayed in Italy and avoided a year of playing U-23's as Conte froze him out.

So Levy, with all of his brinkmanship and famed negotiation ability has not been on the same page as the highly paid, dinosaur managers he has hired recently. And even if one was to make an excuse for Levy in that Paratici handled player transfers, well again I would say, Levy hired him.

yeah exactly

our transfers and manager hires have been out of sync.
That's never going to lead to a successful outcome.

Staggers me we are wanting to buy players without a coach let alone a DoF

Seems horrendously unaligned

Oh it’s ridiculous mate. If you were the player or the player’s agent you wouldn’t even take the call.

Levy is a dead set worm.

warming to the idea of Ange i must say

still want Enrique, but this club has taught me never to put too much hope into what i want (Dias, De Ligt, De Jong....the list grows)

Get Ange
Keep Kane
**** whatever else happens after that

Ive been keen on the Ange signing for a while, maybe cause being Aussie makes me a little more invested but he strikes me as the sort of guy who fits the Levy mould of manager but when he gets there, will have no qualms saying it how it is.

If it doesn’t work with Ange then maybe we really are ****ed as a football club
