Bony not bad if Lukaku is unachievable.

Very hard to gauge Capoue yet. Spent large portions of last season injured and never really got a great run from Sherwood

We're not really looking for a striker this window, nearest we'll get will be a LWF, Greizmann or similar although he maybe a pipe dream atm.

Poch wants to rebuild form the back, so a CB will be next after Shchiederlin, strikers maybe next window.

Just on Vorm, obviously we cant use Brad Friedal to play the sweeper in a high line, he's 43 ffs. Poch wants Vorm because he is capable of playing the same sweeper role that Hugo can play and we dont have to change our game plan if Hugo gets injured, or we use him in the cups we still keep the same game plan.

We will probably only pay about 3mill (Euros) for Vorm, not 5 as being reported.

We are looking at Dier for CB as well as a few others. We want some one young and fit and physical so he can dominate in the CB role for a long time.

Cant see what Vorm gets out of coming over to play 2nd fiddle to the best in the league. Either way for that price it cant be a bad thing

Not to mention contracts these days aren't worth the paper they're written on, suggesting there may be clauses in Lloris' contract, so a solid no.2 is not a bad thing to have imo.

If they don't take Europa seriously this year they have rocks in their heads

Watching our 3-2 win against Toronto pretty much a tale of two halves:

Friedel - well beaten twice. Reports are he will take on a youth coaching role now that he is effectively our #3/4 GK
Naughton - not bad defensively. Hopefully we can move him on and Fredericks comes on from the U21s as backup to Walker
Kaboul - very good on the ball and breaking up the play. If he can stay fit he'll be first choice with JV
Veljkovic - by the looks of it Poch is a fan. Played in the stronger XI and didn't look out of place. Expect him to pass Dawson as 4th choice
Davies - despite just signing for us he seemed to settle well.
Mason - another kid thrown into the stronger XI who didn't look out of place. Was tidy on the ball and pressed well from that 2nd line of midfielders.
Capoue - very impressive. He is a bit of a scapegoat at times unfairly but he has a lot to prove and I think he could end up ahead of Sandro.
Lamela - great game. Always looking to get involved and linked very well with Eriksen and Soldado. Could see the relief when he scored his first
Eriksen - swapped well and linked well with Lamela. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
Lennon - looked good on the left, some very nice touches and jinking runs
Soldado - 2 assists for Lamela and showed he isn't just a poacher. Linked very very well

Only things to take out of the 2nd half:
Dawson - he is finished
Rose - must stay as a backup to Davies
Fryers - still should be patient with him but he isn't ready yet
Ceballos - would like to see him get a couple of run outs this season, looks like a player
Holtby - battled hard and got the assist but still can only see him being a bit-part player
Kane - after a great first friendly he dropped off a bit. Still think he will play a big part this season

Just watched the highlights of the game. Absolutely loving the fact that we're being hugely underestimated and dismissed as competitors to the current top 4 & Man United; the squad we have now is unbelievably talented, all we need is a coach to make it click, and those goals looked slick.

Props to Townsend's goal as well; wasn't a fan of him at all last season, but if he can score goals like that on his weaker foot, he will be dynamite.

Our squad depth looks freaking amazing.

I was actually at the game and it was quite enjoyable.

Positives:

Lamela, Eriksen and Soldado linked very well together. Hard to judge how much of that was due to the quality of the opposition but Lamela in particular is something to get excited about.

Capoue is another "new recruit" who I think will show why he was purchased, dominant i the middle.

Kane is a imposing beast and very skillful when the ball is at his feet, his team members need to look for him more.

So-so

Townsends goal was great but he still shoots way too much and seems very easily corralled, I definitely would prefer to see him in the side than Lennon who again appears to be all puff and no finish.

Dawson would do well to find another team, as mentioned he shouldn't be in the starting line up and there is certainly a number of kids who should get the first call up before him.

Rose and Walker, are these guys really defenders? Seem to play very high up the pitch (At times further than Lamela). Hopefully at a minimum Davies can replace Rose long term.

Overall there is enough to suggest we have another season of great potential, especially when you consider the quality to return.

I never understood the Capoue hate Sherwood and the media had. I dont recall too many bad games and he looked like a good DM who also had that bit of class on the ball Sandro lacked.

Think it will be a 1 in 1 out policy with our transfers for all positions bar CB. If we can ship a Holtby, Lennon Townsend or Chadli I can see us bringing in a quality winger/AM, if not Poch will make do and hopefully get the best out of players who all at some point in time were called quality signings.

Friendlies vs MLS teams in summer is a cosmic gap between EPL in the depths of winter.

Still, even a pessimist like me likes the look and form of the squad. Would love to get a seriously good centre back signed though, always been our Achilles heel.

We need a Left Winger/ Left Forward more than a Centre Back imo, Townsend, Lennon and Lamela are all RWs, Lamela can pinch hit at no 10 and Eriksen can pinch hit on the left like what Siggy/Dempsey did the last 2 seasons but I feel it is a hole in the team that no one has filled since Bale started playing as a free rolling no 10, Chadli is supposed to be a LW but he always seems to play centrally or out on the right.

A quality prospect like Depay would help us out there and I reckon 1 of Lennon or Chadli should be moved on, I prefer Townsend over Lennon even though Townsend is selfish due to his hunger to score and he is younger.

Morgan Schneiderlin & Jay Rodriguez all but done deals.

Schneiderlin might cost 20-27m but he's the most important signing of the window by far in my opinion. Ever since Modric left we've lacked a player that can run this joint from the middle of the park. Dembele's been playing that role the last two years but he's rubbish at it because he has no passing range & no weaker foot. Schneiderlin and Capoue will be one of the strongest, most rock solid central pairings going around.

as for Jay Rodriguez, he's apparently coming off a bad knee injury that was meant to sideline him for 6 months from June but he's made a swift recovery and should be back within a couple of months. He would apparently play at wide-left forward which is probably another hole in the side filled, although I'm a little skeptical when it comes to buying injured players.

Schneiderlin will mean its the end of the beast. Capoue has looked good in pre season and will push for a spot in the centre of the park at the start of the season. Don't agree that Schneiderlin will be the passing boss Modric was he is more of a Sandro type player, most intercepts & tackles last season than any other player. Hopefully partnering him with a Dembele, Paulinho or Carrol/Holtby will allow them to get off the leash a bit

Schneiderlin is very box to box, he has Paulinho covered also, Schneiderlin scored important goals last season too, he knows how to find the back of the net.

He scored 2 goals last season. He isn't box-to-box, he's a deep holding midfielder who can dictate play through the centre, and we haven't had someone who can do that since Modric.

With that said, Southampton Chairman had just come out and said Schneiderlin & Rodriguez will not be sold during this window, which is understandable considering how much they've lost. Probably time to move on now.

Schneiderlin has cracked the shits publicly now, I will be very surprised if he doesn't come in. Sotons chief just being bold an trying to amp up the $. Feel bad for them though due to their player loss.

Not sure with Jay.

Speaking of this Schneiderlin matter, if anyone has Twitter, have a look at Connor Armstrong's comments on the matter plus Pochettino etc. Connor has been melting hard the last couple of days, he's supposedly a freelance journo too lol, looks like he's a uni student to be honest. If anyone also reads Cartilage Free Captain, they're talking about him there also.

Even then, it's getting to the point where they might be better off keeping unhappy players rather than selling them, which would create an even bigger perception that Southampton are an unambitious selling club. Southampton Forums are also suggesting that if Schneiderlin leaves, there's absolutely no way their chairman Ralph Krueger can stay.

There's still enough to keep my hopes up a bit though. Again, he's EXACTLY what we need.

Young defender Eric Dier close to signing for about 4m. Good young English defender who has been with Sporting in Portugal

Eric Dier transfer set to be complete. Not sure if he'll be loaned back yet, but if not, a backup centre-half is probably something we need.

We're also apparently chasing Villarreal centre-half Mateo Musacchio, who's meant to be better than Lovren, but he's also shorter/probably not as good in the air.

Good Eric Dier interview:

No brainer why we got him; being brought up in the Portugese System would've drastically improved his technical qualities & composure which is necessary for the type of football we're trying to play. He's the type of centre-half that's good at collecting the ball & maintaining possession, as opposed to Daws who smashes it forward at every opportunity. Look forward to seeing him in a Spurs Shirt.
