West coast and Sydney have made a huge rivalry out of eachother, but is this as big as the pies bombers hatred?
Bigger.

WCE V Sydney

Mainly because the games have been close, they have been Grand Final games and both teams have been good side.

Essendon V Collingwood games haven't been as close as the WCE and Swans games. They haven't been in finals and both teams have been towards the bottom of the ladder.

I'm talking over the past 3-4 years.

Pies and Dons easily. Eagles and Swans are interstaters so care factor is pretty minimal.
Minimal?? Your kidding. Most people wanna see good close games. WCE and Sydney provide that.

Eessendon and Collingwood games haven't been fantastic close games to watch??

Pies fans (well this one anyway) hate the bombers (mainly due to the arrogance of essendon fans) but a loss to Carlton is still the one that hurts the most.

There is more to genuine rivalry than close games IMHO.

Swans and Eagles is based on real hardfought contests in games that matter.

Essendon Collingwood is a manufactured rivalry that has highjacked Australia's most sacred day for their own means.

Essendon and Collingwood have hatted each other for longer then the ANZAC day clash has been around. But i guess you wouldn't understand considering your club didn't exist more then 10 years ago.

WC v Sydney and Adelaide v Port are the true current rivalrys. Pies v Bombers etc are contrived and don't have any real meaning nowdays. No one apart from behind-the-times Vics care. It's like the Serbs and Croats, most of them don't even know why they hate each other anymore. Just rivalry for the sake of it

that's quite funny considering the Ess v Coll hatred began before there were any ANZACS or an ANZAC Day:thumbsu:

and you think rivalry only matters when they are played in games that matter?? so Adelaide and Port have only had one "rivalry" match in their whole existence?

i wish people would get a clue before they write.

Carlton Collingwood.
Obviously (not argubly) the biggest rivalry of all-time! Bigger modern day rivals. Depends which way you look at it, the care factor between a Collingwood-Carlton match is much larger than a Sydney-WestCoast.

Very tough to choose, but seeing as you have stated modern day, WCEVSYD.

I ahte the word rivalry to describe Sydney West Coast. They are not rivals they do nt hate each other they have respect for one another. Essendon Collingwood is a rivalry Essendon fans love to see Collingwood fail but Sydney-WC don't feel that way

i would have thought it depends on where you are sitting on the ladder, and who you go for. personally, i couldn't give a rats ass about either of these clashes, but i'll still watch them.
if you were to walk into the mcg, with it filled to capacity for the game,i reckon the atmosphere would be completely different. bombers v pies would be a sense of just hoping to beat the oppostion cos i hate them, just as my family and friends have done for the last fifty years, and if i see any of those scumbag supporteters i'll give them a mouthful, and maybe a couple of clips behind the ear.
syd vs eagles - lets hope for a good game, and them meet across the road for some tapas and wine!! don't forget, we fly home tomorrow...
