Re: The Crowd

Was full in my area, which is surprising cause usually there's always spare seats around us.

And btw since when cant you take in takeaway foods into the football??? I was denied by this pompous security guard (omg like she thought she was so good, catching me after I actually entered the ground) because I had some fish and chips.

I then checked the sign outside the ground and it does say "no commercially produced food". Just wondering if this was a new thing at all...
I know its like that at the Dome. Never used to be - I always used to grab Subway and take it in with me. Was a tradition with me and some mates... Then one day we got knocked back after lining up for an eternity, then had to line up again and we missed the frist 5 minutes..... I didnt think we would miss much....

..... It was the famous Richmond game in 2007 and we were up by about 5 goals at that point anyway :p

All I learnt from that situation yesterday was to be more sneaky next time. ie. put the food in the bottom of your bag!!!

Seriously how hopeless is that... "comercially produced food" isnt allowed in. Er so whats the bread, ham, etc whatever is in peoples sandwiches they bring in from?? Is that not comercially produced? Unless you killed the friggin animal yourself well then it is.

Yeah I don't eat at the footy but was wondering the same thing. If you bring a roll from the bakery, is that commercially produced?

If you read the membership book you got very very very carefully it's mentioned in it about outside takeway food being banned. It's due to Red Rooter and the other joint now selling food at SS.

It was full in my area yesterday which was surprising, as there's usually quite a few spare seats (but these are members reserved seats who dont show on the day).

I think I may have met the same security woman as you did Shell-she was onto EVERYTHING that people tried to get into the ground-she took food/drinks off people in front of me & even tried to confiscate a guy's camera-she was really over the top!!!

Polly Farmer Gate? She was really old, with short hair.

(Sorry to go on with this, but it really pissed me off. Never have been treated like that before at the footy in over 15 years...)

Re: The Crowd

We are in the FP at city end and I could count at least 20-30 spare seats just in and around our area, but they are sparsely spaced so you don't see it on TV. This is normal every week (members who don't turn up). You multiply that around the ground including standing and you will come close to 3000-5000 not attending.

Off topic, but about five years ago I had a spare membership and had a mate coming. He was late, and rang me as he was getting to the ground. I was already inside, so instead of me getting a passout I just passed the spare membership over the fence to him near the Club Cats gate. A security guard saw this, and assumed that I was using my membership to get more than one person in (which is impossible, as it only scans once). I tried to explain this but he wouldn't listen, and marched me and my mate half way around the ground to his supervisor, just to be told how wrong he was.

That is crazy. I've done that tonnes of times myself (mainly Etihad or the G), right in front of security, they never say anything.

(Going back to what happened yesterday- oh how badly I wanted to casually walk up to the guard, after finishing most of the food, and offer her a chip. Oh how i wanted to do that.. but thought she might have the power to throw me out of the ground for good, so I didnt. :D)

He simply had no idea. I missed 15 minutes of the game because of him.

Re: The Crowd

I'm in the Doug Wade stand and there were quite a few empty seats around where I sit, although they were mainly single seats. I was also wondering if they were members who didn't turn up (why would you miss with all that was going on?) or whether they had upped and gone to the Premiership Stand.

Really? I went and got Red Rooster from down the road at half time and they let me in. Maybe they want people to pay twice the price in the Red Rooster in the Premiership Stand???

I got fish and chips from across the road like I always do and didn't have a problem.

Re: The Crowd

Few spare seats in that "army" that was the port cheer squad...
I couldn't see the bottom of the label on that banner they pulled over themselves because it was cut off by the fence. As a result from where I sat the words "Outer Army" looked very much like "Queer Army". Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Lucky for me I managed to get me banana in but seriously. The servo across the road will be spewing. I always used to get a pie and whatever at half time and just stroll back in with it all tucked under my arms....Oh and um. Just quietly I do own a couple of banana palms but don't like their chances of bananaring in these parts so yes. The banana I had was commercially produced. I'm such a rebel.

As for the capacity. Who bloody knows. Someones stuffed up with the seat counting cause they've been over estimating since the eastern stand was built. Only 83% full on Sunday. Nope. The attendance is right. The capacity is wrong.

I know, it's all a bit over the top really.

You should be able to bring your own roll i reckon.

One would hope by hiding it at the bottom of your bag you can get it in.

Yeah I sent an email complaining about it to the club. My main points being, 1. its a bullshit rule and 2. The security guard in question is bullshit as well. (worded it a bit differently to that though ;))

Re: The Crowd

1) Club puts out tender to food/drink vendors.
2) Vendors come back with offer, including exclusive sale rights conditions.
3) Club accepts, makes profit.

There's no way they'll stop you bringing food from home.

Re: The Crowd

I obviously have the utmost respect for Brian Cook but they have a long way to go if they want to excel in all areas as Brian as stated as an objective in recent years. Open a few more toilets... open more of the food and beverage service areas... what are they there waiting for if we're at capacity already?

I do not want to disrespect Cooky at all but if we want to be the best, why not start in the areas where the supporters that provide all those finances are located?
