It's just like how Collingwood never play away from home.

They are treated better because they are a powerhouse of the sport.

Same with Italy in the soccer.

Same with Australia and the cricket?
Yeah, we were so going to beat Italy anyway and go on to win the World Cup.

bwahahahahahaha, now you're playing the inferior complex.

So your saying that the head of soccer told the referees to give a penalty to Italy but don't give one to Australia.

This just keeps getting better and better, and now your comparing it with Collingwood getting more matches in Melbourne.

Give up!

You give it up mate :thumbsu:

Regardless of the favouring, it was hardly worthy of the greatest sporting moment of the year.

hahaha, you child.

Its very big game that soccer, alot of people would beg to differ especially the way it unites countries like no other sport.

Its still a close second to AFL though. :)

The world cup is one of the biggest sporting events in the world

Excuse me, and you basing this on what???? exactly sweet F@ck all, they are spineless comments with no credibility.

Not necessarily agreeing with swannies rule here but a lot of key decisions in Australia's matches did go against them.

Schwarzer was clearly fouled for Japan's goal. The ref against Brazil was terrible throughout, he simply wouldn't let us play our natural game by calling us up for ridiculous niggling fouls all day.

The refereeing against Croatia is probably the worst display by an official I've seen in any sport. Three yellow cards to Simunic, two other penalties to Australia missed (Viduka tackled to ground and another handball in the 2nd half), Kewell was offside for his goal, and causing chaos at the end of the game. Little wonder Graham Poll retired from international refereeing after this game. Terrible performance.

The ref in the Italy game was good, but made two bad calls (Materazzi's red card and the penalty). Both should not have been given.

Anyway, I'm not claiming conspiracy theories against us or that the bigger nations get a better run, but I do think we were harshly treated.

Cmon please.... Every team cops bad decisions, the only reason why its magnified so much is because its the team we support, Nobody cares about the other side who cops bad decisions, i didn't see anyone of us complaining about Kewells offside goal or Materazzi's non red card. That red card totally turned the match and made it competitive with Australia being outplayed in the first half and Italy down to 10 men totally having to change their game plan in the second.

I still think that the penalty was 50/50 and could have gone either way, it was harsh that the match wen't down to that moment on a decision that was not clear cut.

Their was some real brain explosions from us in some tight moments of matches, Lucas Oneil slide tackling an italian player in the box with no contact on the ball and Schwarzer's awareness for the first goal in the Japan match, both player and keeper had eyes on the ball and he still couldn't hold his ground and knock the ball away, either you go for it full throttle or you don't go for it at all, he almost wen't half hearted with no force, it really was a weak effort for a keeper.

I did mention that Kewell's goal was offside and that Materazzi did not deserve to be sent off. So yes, those decisions did go our way. I support Australia so of course I'll be more inclined to be upset about the refereeing decisions that go against us. Just the nature of being a football supporter.

That's basically my opinion as well. When it happened in real time, I feared instantly a penalty. Only on replay I realised that it was iffy. I don't think it should've been paid, but as you say it was 50/50 - some refs would have paid it, others would have called play on.

He shouldn't have gone to ground, but I dont blame him for the penalty. Grosso was charging in, we were in trouble and he had to make a quick decision. In any case Neill was our best player at the tournament so whilst he did make a mistake I certainly dont hold any blame for him.

Schwarzer definitely should have done better for the Japan goal, but he was still fouled and it was a poor decision by the referee. Given how referees generally call fouls for the slightest of touches on goalkeepers these days, its hard to see why he didnt in this game.

The Rafter loss was the one I voted, but in the same way as I was heartbroken by him never winning it, I was glad that Ivanisevic won it because he's been in three previous finals and lost them all. Them hugging each other at the end after the five set marathon was quite fitting.

The difference is when Aus copped that vs Italy they didn't have a chance to change the result. The game and tournament was right there, they couldn't come back and use their subs which they were holding because it was the last kick in the game. Much more unfair.

grand final loss 2005. was stunned for a day then i saw the replays the next day and burst into tears. one of the worse weeks of my life that week. the world cup and ashes loss as well was a punch to the guts. rugby was more of anger then sadness as we shouldve won but we didnt.

Mate just shut up alright. Your probaly at the front of the 'bangwagon' bus from your comments.

Australia didnt deserve to be knocked out that way. Everyone knows it was a blatent piece of acting. Heck Mr Blatter (if you know whot that is) said the exact same thing.

But at the end of the day, its the referees call and from hes positioning it looked like a penalty. Sure he got it wrong but remember he has a spilt decision to make and it turns out to be horse-sh1t for us. Better luck next time buddy.

Italians are known for being 'favoured' by the referees ;)

Are you confusing this with the Italian league in which bigger clubs get blatently favoured by the Refs??

If your still talking about the Penalty decision, then mate your argument is flawed.

the ref even said that the penalty was the wrong decision jsut recently. But i guess that is the game nothing you can do about it now.
Yeah on reply it was the wrong decision. No disputing that.

But you can only go on what u see in live motion and the ref made the right decision from hes position.
