Don't mind players sneaking out the back into the goal square for the certain goal.

But for ****s sake don't carry on like the messiah when you get a handball over the top and kick a goal from the goal square.
This. If you can get free and make an option and guarantee the goal, that's just good team football. Regardless of who kicks it, it's good for the team.

But some of the big celebrations after those sorts of goals are cringeworthy. Ty Vickery used to be a serial offender of this. I don't mind him getting pumped after a good mark and set shot but not from a cheapie. Can't remember him doing it recently though.

Josh Jerkins owns this thread - a 6.8ft crumbing forward who's goal tally is massively distorted by an outrageous number of Joe the gooses/geese

In the 1971 GF Hudson received a Joe the Goose for goal 151 and the umpire didn't allow it and made the hawk who went over the top (free or mark) go back and take the Kick. Might have been Keddie. Someone older than me might remember further details.

Aaron Lord during his brief career at Hawthorn was the greatest JTG exponent in the history of the game. Built like Tarzan, Aaron appeared to consider any physical aspect of the game like tackling as not part of his job description. His MO was to hang close to goal, wait for one of his teammates to become involved in a contested situation and then sprint toward the goal square in the hope that the ball cold be kicked or hand balled over the top into his grateful hands. The fact that his teammate would usually be battling both his and Arrons direct opponent for the ball meant the tactic was usually unsuccessful but when it came off, wow, could he give the crowd the victory salute.

Always thought his. Excellent player, but a lot of his goals seem to come from the goal square.

Could be wrong though.
He reads the play really well often picks up balls off the ground and runs in rather then waiting in the goal square for cheapies. No wonder he never kicked a point last year though.

Cripps from the eagles seems to be forging a whole career out of it.
Not watching a lot of footy this year Esti? He's been handed maybe two or three goals on a platter this year, if that.

Cripps is the number one forward fifty pressure player in the competition.

The Eagles are ranked first in the competition for tackles inside their forward 50, averaging just under 16 per game. Leading the way is Cripps, who’s laid 10 more tackles inside forward 50 than any other player in the competition. He’s averaged just under three per game.
Like a competent Chris Mayne, with better hair, and not a campaigner.
