Yeah Jenkins has been very good at it in his short career.

Not sure if it's being loose in the square or in general play, but Monfries always seems to be loose ahead of the ball. Whether he always just peels off the contest or no one likes to go near him I dunno.

I think people are getting their definitions confused. There's gut running and great reading of the play goals in the square, then there's standing in the goal square flapping your arms waiting to cherry pick a cheapie.

Tony Lockett kicked more goals than anyone, many of them from contested marks and from 40m out on the boundary line. But he would have to be the biggest "Joe the Goose" poacher ever to play the game. How many of his 1360 goals were from handballs over the top to him standing alone in the goal square? 100? 200?

Of the current players, probably Buddy Franklin. He also kicks more goals than anyone, most of them from outrageous snaps and long bombs, but he also kicks plenty from "Joe the Goose" handball receives.

I'm not really sure what the big issue is. These are team goals and the full forward is there to cap off the good work of his teammates. Would people prefer to see players not give the handball, be selfish, take the shot themselves and miss?

Actually this is incorrect. Hill has the highest proportion of self made goals on our list.
Josh Hill has kicked 21 goals this year and I reckon half of them have been from a Joe the Goose in the goal square.

He has been a great contributor, though. It's not like all he is doing is lurking and kicking cheap goals.

Lindsay Thomas has made a career of them. Nahas a couple of late but not even in the same ball park.

Take away the joes and duck frees and Thomas would be on around 7 goals instead of 20.

Well you would be wrong. Demonstrably wrong. Source, the AFL website, which did a team by team breakdown.

I reckon the first person I heard use the term was Wayne Carey
not saying he invented it, just that he is the first I remember using what was previously an unusual term for me.
Similar to many posters, the first player that springs to mind this year is Cripps
