I like the mentality this current list is developing of always having a crack. Even in better years we've had games where we've totally lost the plot and received 10 goal + beltings.

The last time this happened was in 2003, with Chocco well in to his coachign career and a very experienced list. For us to repeat this now with this young list, and under a 1st year coach, is quite an achievement in the mental mindset of this group IMO.

Either that or just call me Rooch, as I'm trying to make something out of nothing. :D

Just throwing this out there:

2003 – 48 points

... 92
… 117
… 79
… 119
… 68
… 93
… 94
… 165
… 72

2013 – 48 points (so far).

Also, our biggest winning margin this year is greater than our biggest losing one. When did that happen last? Any ideas?

Surprisingly was able to name our opponent in most of those games. Anyone help out with 2006, 2008 and 2010.
Most likely the Saints... I know they feature quite heavily when looking up the figures.

EDIT: 2006 - Freo, 2008 - Swans.... 2010 I have to edit... Saints beat us by 94, but it looks like I overlooked Geelong beating us by 95.

Phew... this was very much at risk at half time on the weekend... but it help prove the mental improvement in our players/list to stop the blowout and cut a 68 point margin down to a respectable 24.

We're obviously no top 4 side: we're still building our belief. I'm looking forward to the day this list start true believing, because they know it through and through and not because our coaching staff keep telling them.

To use a "Matrix" analogy: currently we're at the stage where Morpheus and the Oracle (Hinkley and Co) have told Neo (our squad) they're The One, but Neo (our squad) don'y fully believe it. Like the "helicopter" scene (against Geelong) they're trying to believe it, but it isn't quite coming off yet. IMO once they stop thinking about Agents (other teams) as being "the best and hard to beat" and starting seeing themselves as unbeatable... then we will evolve in to The One... and our team will be able to dive right into the middle of Simmonds Stadium and blow the cats apart. ;)

Largest losses in 2013:

Adelaide: 77 v Sydney, Round 11
Brisbane: 68 v Western Bulldogs, Round 1
Carlton: 41 v Collingwood, Round 15
Collingwood: 55 v Hawthorn, Round 3
Essendon: 79 v Collingwood, Round 19
Fremantle: 42 v Hawthorn, Round 4
Gold Coast: 52 v Geelong, Round 10
GWS: 135 v Adelaide, Round 7
Geelong: 10 v North Melbourne, Round 19
Hawthorn: 41 v Richmond, Round 19
Melbourne: 148 v Essendon, Round 2
Port Adelaide: 45 v Hawthorn, Round 16
Richmond: 47 v Sydney, Round 18
St Kilda: 101 v Geelong, Round 18
Sydney: 37 v Hawthorn, Round 7
West Coast: 50 v Hawthorn, Round 2
Western Bulldogs: 70 v West Coast, Round 6

So, while we shouldn't get too happy, we are definitely up there, being within a few points of Hawthorn, Sydney, Fremantle, and Richmond. Geelong's record is absolutely stunning.
