We've had some really close and quality Geelong games of recent, and who could forget Solo making Lings face abit uglier?

I'd have to say St Kilda. There's always controversy between these teams such as the incident where the siren went but they didn't hear it and St Kilda kicked a point and it was called a draw even though fremantle had won. Then theres the interesting occurances such as the umpire marking the ball. Now we have their coach which could make for something of a rivalry.

As an outsider I would agree with this.

Plus, you're always poaching guns off one another. First they got Peake from you and now it looks like you'll take revenge but getting Dawson ;)

Haha you're a right bastard Jimmy, Heath Black was a decent player for both clubs though.

I'd agree it's probably the Saints, but I don't think we really have any serious rivals other than West Coast, which is more a geographical reason; not really organic. Hopefully we start playing consistent finals in the next few years, tight finals wins are the best way to start a rivalry IMO.

I'd say our next serious rival will be one of the young teams that should be vying for finals around the same time as us, teams like North/Hawks/Demons/Sydney etc. We might even play West Coast in a final sooner or later...

Always a bit of niggle when playing Geelong but not sure it can be labelled a rivalry till we win a few more

Goddard kicking the ball into the Freo cheer squad. Farmer getting smashed behind play and the Baker getting suspended for 7 weeks without video footage.

Rivalry should be a bit like sex or fighting. Doing by yourself isn't the same.

I can't think of another team that considers us a real personal challenge.

Mabey Port would qualify as real rivalry.

Otherwise we are probably stuck with West Tankers then daylight.

I don't think we have a big rivalry, but I have found a dissproportionate amount of Freo Bigfooty posters seem to really hate Port - not really sure why?

I used to dislike Port. Now I just feel sorry for them. If they start winning some games and drawing a crowd and I might start disliking them again.

Even before the Ross Lyon Saga I would have said St Kilda. There were a few very close matches from 2005 onwards, with the whispers in the sky match and the sirengate. Then we thrashed them a few rounds before the finals

With the Ross Lyon thing, there should be a renewed intensity between the two teams

Not sure if troll but I can't imagine so if that's the actual case. For me Port fall under the list of non-Vic teams other than West Coast that I'll generally support if they aren't playing Freo.

For me Josh Carr choosing to go back to Port isn't enough of a reason for me to dislike Port.

In 2005 they won by the narrowest margin in Tassie after McPharlin rushed a behind and it was judged to be a throw, I believe Gehrig converted the goal from the free. Then we won after the J-Lo goal after the siren. First game between the two clubs in 06 was the Sirengate affair.

But aside from those games, and perhaps the game where Carey the ump marked the ball, there haven't really been any standout games between Freo and the Saints. I don't think there's a rivalry on the strengths of those games alone, personally, but it's probably the closest to a true rival we have.

Or when this happened for the NAB CUP semi final in 2010:

The collapse of a section of roof during the heavy storm that lashed Melbourne in the afternoon forced the match to be delayed by 20 minutes while an inspection was carried out on public areas.

Supporters were locked out until just before the game began and were confined to the ground level when finally let in as the middle and top tiers were declared off limits to the public
