Biggest preliminary choke I can remember to get s**t kicked like that just wow. Mason Cox swinging without lube. Collingwood immense! Hope to see you in the big dance

Edit: Our performance is up there in terribleness.

Carlton in 99 was a 2nd tier team upsetting one of the best ever.

Saying tonight was an upset that big is disrepectful to collingwood.

Richmond 2018 are not as good as Essendon 99 and Coll 2018 are far better than carlton 99

Except Richmond 2018 had won a flag. Essendon hadn't by that point, they were just an 18-4 team, the same as Richmond this year.

They weren't one of the best ever. They'd had a pretty good year coming from 9th. Had Lucas and Hird out, hadn't won anything yet.

1. Essendon - 18-4, 126%. Won their first final by 69 points (although against 8th)
6. Carlton - 12-10, 103%. Lost their first final by 73 (bizarre old rules), won the next week by managing to play the 5th placed Eagles who won their first final at the MCG...

2018
1. Richmond - 18-4, 136%. Won their first final by 5 goals
3. Collingwood 15-7, 120%. Small loss and decent win in their 2 finals.

Not even close. It's a joke Carlton even got the chance - there's a reason the rules were changed. They finished the year after finals with a % below 100! They were so far off Essendon it's still unbelievable 19 years on that it happened, and it was crazy as a North fan just thinking holy s**t have we been given the most golden opportunity ever handed to any grand final team ever.

Carlton 1999 would be comparable in 2018 to:
Week 1 finals - Collingwood flog Sydney week 1
Week 2 finals - Sydney get gifted a game in Sydney due to contract rules where games have to be played, Melbourne finish 5th but have to travel to Sydney. Swans win
Week 3 finals - Sydney d Richmond

Besides Richmond- who have been some other teams that have dominated the whole season and them choked on a big one during the prelim. I seem to remember port doing it a few times on the early 00s. Who else has some nominations ?

Can't remember Essendon ever doing it.
