It would be either Sydney or Western Bulldogs, but I'm curious to see what people think.

These days, it feels like it's Sydney as the Western Bulldogs rivalry doesn't have the spark it once did.

Richmond?
Players went both ways (Deledio, Taranto, Hopper etc)
Prelim in 2017 and GF in 2019 against each other

Surely its Sydney. Local derbies tend to have some spice even if the teams are far apart in ability at the time. (Not that they are always close, but they start with feeling).
Dogs seems more of a similar position over a decent period thing, but not long enough to be a forever rival; and maybe being "western" as a loose addition. If they separate in ladder and expectation there's probably nothing more to it.

I've always personally thought that the GWS & WBD rivalry was wildly overrated. One good prelim and a couple of controversial Toby Greene incidents and basically nothing since then.

Sydney derbies have given us some absolute classics and that still includes many games in just the last few years (Minus Friday night)

Collingwood is one that hasn't gotten much of a mention yet. Close 2018 semi-final loss, massive upset in the 2019 prelim-final win, super tight 2023 prelim-final loss and since then bullied Collingwood in gather-round twice in a row, so badly that Collingwood had to plead to get their own home game for gather round instead. GWS also used to poke fun at the pies over social media a lot.

Until very recently they were always close and tough.

Now they just flog us each time. It much of a rivalry.

I think Sydney Swans as the derby is always special. They are the only team we are guaranteed to play twice a year (at least when there’s no Covid!), and our first ever match was against the Swans. Our very first finals game was against them (as was our very first finals win). Also almost all of our highest home crowd attendances are also against Sydney.

Sure I don’t like the Western Bulldogs for the 2016 Preliminary Final that was gifted to them by the AFL, and will rejoice in beating them (although that has been rarer these days). But beating the Sydney Swans and our games against them will always be special.

GWS is still too small to really have a rivalry with any heat in it. The Bulldogs thing was brief and one way, though I think the Sydney Derby is building. They've had some memorable matches and played finals. When GWS crack around 40,000 members, and the SCG is at least 25-30% Giants during a Derby it'll get real interesting.

The Bulldogs-GWS rivalry is mostly dead. It had real spark for a while but was mostly borne out of player movements (Ward/Griffen/Boyd etc), some big games (e.g. 2016 PF, the 2019 EF), and a few on-field incidents (several involving Green, plus Bont on Haynes etc). Most of those factors are no longer relevant so it's naturally dissipated over time.

Like all 2 team cities, their biggest ongoing rivalry will always be with Sydney whilst others which pop up will most likely be fleeting.

Sydney. GWS vs Sydney games are largely entertaining and generally close. They've played in multiple memorable finals.

The GWS and Bulldogs rivalry has fizzled due to one-sided results. Similar to the West Coast-Sydney rivalry.
GWS simply don't compete with Bulldogs so it's become an ordinary game.

Outside of those two, I'd say Geelong and Collingwood because of memorable finals + H/A games.

Ryan Griffen and Tom Boyd defections to each club added a bit to it at the time as well.
