Biglands has kicked 13 s-rolls for the year. the thing is he hasnt spent much time up there. - certainly no more than 10-15% per game on average id think as he has been our main ruckman this year.

Now do the sums of the above conversion. Blind F can see he is being a very succesful pinch-hitter up forward this year.

With Hudson possibly back for the finals - and playing ruck with Clrake or Maric - is Biglands another potential weapon to be unleashed to catch out our opponents come September? Stats wise you could argue the case. He offers a new dimension compared to Roo and Wlesh. And he doesnt mind smashing into defenders also :thumbsu:

No.

The reason he only pinch-hits is because he is not good enough to play there full-time. He gets in the way of other forwards, he has no football sense, he drops too many marks he seems to have done and dusted and his reaction time is terribly slow after he misses a mark.

fair call. but do yoiu think hes under-utilised up forward then based on his goals/minutes played forward ratio?

Nope. Craig is using him sparingly and he plays best that way in the forward line. He wouldn't be very successful if used there full time. He just adds something different for the defenders.

Biglands is only a part-timer up forward. Its been a handy trick, but it won't be a full time thing. I suspect we'll see Maric drop back to the SANFL until 2007 from next week onwards as Clarke comes back in and maybe even Huddo. But I think Clarke has the sort of experience to make a big difference come finals time. And he's just so good at tap work. Maybe Biglands might drop into the forward line for five minutes every now and again, whilst Clarke did tap work, just to mess with the opposition's defence structure and a get a sneaky goal. But it won't be a full time thing.

Not really. I think Craigie does it about right, much longer and he'd cause more trouble to our forward line than he would to the opposition's defense.

Agreed that we won't see Biglands spend too much time up forward. But I've been impressed with his improved marking this year, he's been accurate in shooting for goal and his ND efforts are better than I've ever seen from him. There was one pearler against geelong where he was spoiled going for a mark, landed on his feet and went after the ball and secured it like a rover. I think he's improved this year from what was already a pretty good base.
