So - players and teammates don't?
I can’t say I’ve noticed anyone extra positive about Wayne. If anything it’s because he’s injured, I centinly haven’t seen anything negative about Nank by players.
And edit as drugs said, he’s just been removed from the leadership group by his peers.

Play Milera sure, but drop Laird then.

Why play either ?

Whats this obsession to play Milera - in his entire career he’s never ever put it together, he’s either injured or teases with flashes here and there

For a player that has an elite leg - he never uses it. He more often than none pulls the trigger in a safe kick

For a player that has elite speed - he very rarely uses it to break lines

How many 400-500m plus games has he had in his career - **** all is the answer

Honestly - people need to stop pumping up his tyres based on small glimpses of form

Can I also remind people - he’s form back from injury is putrid - de takes time to even get to a serviceable level

We have other options - we don’t need to play either Laord or Milera down back

  • Hinge
  • Maxy
  • Bond
  • Nank
  • Oscar
  • Cumming to HB even

If we are ****ing serious Laird or Milera are not in our best back 6 right now

Yep, agree. In the early days of his first season he looked like an absolute jet, thought this guy could be a star. But a combination of injuries and just middling form in general have pretty much snuffed out any thought of that. He has his moments, but not enough of them. He's the modern day DMac... he'll float around and play 200 forgettable games, show the occasional flash of what might have been, but never actually be a decisive factor in many / any of them.

He's in that zone where he's not bad enough to delist, but also not good enough to be particularly important to the side. Like you said, we have a number of other players who can play that role as well or better.

I'm 100% with you

Not heaps to take out of training today, a lot of it was based on structures and method.

Unfortunately looks like Toby Murray hurt the front of his ankle. He had it iced up but I thought he actually looked ok walking back up the race so hopefully has avoided the dreaded syndesmosis.

On the plus side almost everyone was on deck aside from Jones and Gallagher, who ran laps, as well as Strachan who did some walking around the oval.

Oh I concur, if we had a coach who believed in youth, neither Laird nor Milera would be playing.

My prediction is Bond will get a spot in the first 6 weeks. And then not give it back.
He needs us to get lit up by an opposition small forward. Then he'll get a chance

I didn't know Jones was injured, what happened to him ?

He also did a pretty decent negating job on Zach Merrett last year, from memory his 1st 1/2 was particularly good before Merrett got off the leash a bit.

Personally I think that shut down ability would be handy almost every week. And not just in the back line. It's a role he can make his own

Love Bond, but Merrett was very damaging for a lot of that game ... and he nearly killed us with that last stoppage where Bond got lost and Merrett streamed out the front towards goal.

I think Bond learned plenty. Hoping he becomes one of those players that other teams recognise as a thorn in their plans. Reckon we have a couple of those now ... Peatling and ANB also great defensively.

I am fairly lenient to him as it was his 2nd game and Merrett is a brilliant burst type player. Holding him down in the first half is still a win IMO.

Not disputing he got on top of him, but wouldn't mind watching a rematch between the 2

What role does Laird actually play? I don't think its the lockdown small forward role as Max is likely to get the best small forward. He's not a HBF as he's disposal is poor and doesn't run and carry. All that leaves is a loose third defender who will look after mediums? He's too short and small for that. This smacks of trying to fit a player in the lineup where it just doesn't make sense.

Ideally you want Bond taking the most dangerous small forward and releasing Max to being more attacking given he basically has all the weapons, pace, disposal, strength, courage, etc. He would be a menace in the backline for opposition forwards.

Sadly everything thus far has pointed to Nank being usurped by Milera for this weekend.

If there is a silver lining, I think only Nank or Draper are the likely contenders for the sub position, so you’d think at least one of them play.

I’ll be there tomorrow. We play Sunday so it’ll be an extended squad announced but hopefully training gives a good indication of the final team.

Curtin in the 22 you think??

Thanks Bigman. It’d be ridiculous if either them aren’t in the 23

The bigfooty server might crash if both are left out.
