Theres almost no chance that if weve got 30 players available, we go back to Smith
We'll get a guide when the leadership group is announced

Exactly right

He was out of the team but only a whisker away from returning. Any semi-plausible reason to get him in will be leapt upon.
Surely you find it exhausting, looking for things to panic about? [emoji23]

They dropped him. They have a stack of players for that role.

Chill, it'll be fine.

They dropped him

Then they picked him

It's not "looking for things." It's demonstrated things

Don't the players vote on leadership?

Last I looked, the players don't get a vote on team selection.
The leadership group system is set entirely by the coaches

If there is a player vote component, that's because the coaches set it up that way

Number of players in leadership group: Set by coaches

Criteria: Set by coaches

If there's a voting system: Set by coaches

Player eligibility: Set by coaches

Why would you be angling to handball off the responsibility? You obviously know why, so why bother if you're not even fooling yourself?

Ehh, we dropped Ned permanently after we figured he wasn't going to fit into future calculations this year

It's a case-by-case basis. Not saying we definitely won't be tempted to bring back Smith, but I'd be leaning towards that outcome, especially with how much Nicks seems to rate Nank

And we brought in Cumming, and already have Hinge

Plus I'm assuming Laird will be ahead of Smith in the defensive pecking order

There's just too much depth there to really consider it at all a probability
Yep, logic says that

But we recruited Rankine, added first round picks Rachele and Pedlar yet Murphy has remained a perennial selection across half forward. We find a way to squeeze him in.

There cannot be any faith whatsoever in what seems logical happening.

Until the Rnd 1 team is named

They made a decision on Smith and dropped him.

They're not going to go "oh, we were clearly wrong, let's rush him back in.". They know where they stand
They did with Crouch ?

How about we bitch about Smith being picked if it happens? FMD, the bed wetting that goes on in here is unbelievable.
We're in that fun period of the year when we're assured that <insert fading older player> will be a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency option only.

One day it will come true 🙏

Yeah, but just because historically we've constantly, repeatedly, continuously, invariably, perpetually, unfailingly done this cycle despite all evidence pointing to it being a bad idea, over years and years and years, doesn't mean there's any likelihood of it happening again.

There are three types of people in this world:
  1. Glass half empty - i have alcohol in my glass, but I could have more, so I am unhappy even though my wine is nice
  2. Glass half full - i have alcohol in my glass, but I could have less, so I am happy even though the wine could be better
  3. I have wine in my glass, which means there is someone here handing out alcohol, and i really like alcohol.
I'm in the third camp

Sorry - evidence of that?

That the players vote on the leadership group has been pretty widely documented every single time the leadership group has been covered.

The leadership group is NOT set entirely by the coaches.

Do the coaches have influence and input? Sure. Of course they would.

But it's not what you're so paranoid about.

Because history shows us that being in the leadership group gives you a head start on being picked in the 22.
No, history shows that the people selected by the players to be in the leadership group are those most admired for the leadership they show in getting the best out of themselves and others.

That's a pretty good trait if you want to be selected.

I don't understand what you're talking about.

They dropped him in July and he never played again.
They dropped him.

He played SANFL. Had a poor game first up and limped off. Had a good game two weeks later.

Then they immediately recalled him to AFL level.
