On Tuesday the 3rd of December we will be embarking on a new adventure and we need you on board.

This new nation needs to build a code by which all it's citizens are held to, a set of rules they all have agreed to or were agreed to by those who were there before them.

The rules of this game are simple:

To vote you need to be a citizen, to be a citizen you have to post in the game thread.
Every new citizen has to bring a new law with them, your first duty is the proposal for a new law.
--- Be careful of your wording because once it's law, it's law and you'll need someone else to propose a change and have it passed to change that.
Only those who were citizens when you joined the community can vote on your proposal.
You can propose anything you like.
Your laws cannot be omnibus collections of multiple issues, you propose a determination on a single issue at a time - unless that law is changed.
Voting will be in the form of likes or dislikes (or donkey votes of other), if you don't have access to those functions you can reply in writing.
Debate of the proposed laws are encouraged.

As the founding member of the community my proposal for a law is to code the above as the first law.
All citizens at the time of proposal: Taylor (Who votes for and it passes)

Where this goes is going to be entirely up to the community, there can be a winner in this if the law permits.

I should have added "if they want it". I don't think anyone should be compelled to become a BN citizen, however citizenship should have it's perks, like the right to vote in Australia or the right to vote on new laws in BN.

Might want to clarify the order of migration then. As far as I can tell it's:

All migrants must either be a) self-supporting or b) sponsored.
Once migrants are self-supporting, they can choose to become a citizen.

This is specifically only a bill regarding people becoming citizens, and does not have any implications for the ability of those who are already citizens to be self-supporting.

Current law says that the only restriction on gaining citizenship is that you have to post in the thread.

This one might have to get sent to the high court for a ruling on whether an existing law not being amended can be amended by a later non related law.

My gut tells me that existing law takes precedent.

That was going to be my next question - what is a citizen? Are the only citizens of BigNation users of BigFooty who post in this thread? Or are we a legislative body for a cybernation of indeterminate numbers?

If it is the former, than how on earth can that be policed (much as with the 'no fat chicks' law)?

You could afford a person with the title of citizen particular rights, currently there is a non specific right to vote upon posting in the thread granted along with the citizenship that is also granted.

Yes now we have to clarify define terms. To me self supporting meant worked productively and so earned income. As it applies to our immigration policies, if they're coming under this umbrella, then it would mean our intake would consist of people with the skills to work and their families???

So what's the economic drivers going to be or is it just everyone for themselves. Anyone can be productive but you have to put them to good use

I propose that all employers employ on merit. (Quotas are only allowed to be fulfilled on merit - even if quotas are the intention.)

Merit guidelines:

• Qualifications are to be met (if there are such to be met)
• Any proposed candidate is of legal age to work (If BN has such a guideline on minimum working age, if not there is no age to enforce)
• Any proposed candidate is deemed fit to do the role (i:e if the role requires certain physical and or academic abilities)

The Law for the People Act
Under this act, all legislation passed must:

1. Be written in accessible English;
2. Be translated into common languages within a reasonable timeframe;
3. Be translated into any language on request within a reasonable timeframe;
4. Contain plain English notes under each section that clarify what is written, with particular importance placed on describing the intent of the law;
5. Have the notes regularly updated to reflect any case law changes or interpretations that affect the legislation; and
6. Be freely and easily accessible by all citizens electronically (including previous version of amended laws).

Intent: everyone should be able to access and read the laws of the nation, maintaining a reasonable expectation that they will be able to understand those laws and how they apply.
