Forget the law, and what has been proven and what hasn't, and lets just go with the obvious truth. It depends on what you mean by 'criminal organisation'. They're a criminal organisation because legislation was passed declaring them as such.
This "bunch of blokes who share their love of bikes" thing is for bike clubs who don't wear patches, are called "bikies", and aren't known as "1%ers". 1%ers on the other hand are bikers who are members of organised crime gangs.
In Sydney for the last 10 years there have been a number of wars between and within bike gangs. Often over drug territories, and sometimes internal over leadership battles. There has been a steady stream of bikie gang shootings over the last 10 years. It's not tribal "this is our turf" sort of school gang stuff. It's over drug distribution territories and supply chains.
Some of the traditonal bike gangs have been fully infiltrated and taken over by Lebanese drug gangs. Then there's the new bikie gang call Notorious - allegedly the drug ring behind John Ibrahim's operation (far enough apart for him not to be implicated).
John Kizon and his Dad were allegedly Perth's biggest drug distribution ring. Who were his associates? Bikie gangs. Organised crime.
