You haven’t refuted my point. Mobile phones cost $3000 when they were new technology. Electric vehicles aren’t new: they haven’t succeeded because they have always been more expensive than ICE vehicles and remain more expensive.

Manufacturers have focussed on the 'lifestyle' aspect of electric and hybrid. look at the cars on the road. theres a significant number of people driving cars that say 'this is me'. They know how to extract a price premium from people for cars which are probably at least 50% identical to the cheap option

So you really think I'm going to debate "dumb" with you do you?

Let me say it again, because you need to hear it again:
EVERY car manufacturer in the world, is either currently building EV's or working on building EV's

Once you comprehend that (and I have some doubt you are capable) and then think about every other consumer product and its starting price point....nah, forget it, you are lost already aren't you?

That's true, it's arguable that they are competing against the same model from a different manufacturer though.

Particularly that urban SUV market that every car maker has their finger in. If an electric vehicle was comparable in size, utility and cost then it should wipe the same market out because it would do all the same stuff but also have the green component.

I'm not sure it could get to that point though.

So what?

If there is a market, they will chase it. The Prius is a gutless, expensive Corolla, but so long as people buy them, they will exist.

Elon Musk was incredibly smart in chasing the luxury end of electric vehicles. Nothing says “I’m rich but I care” better than a Tesla.

Are you saying the quotes weren't true?
Out of context is the same as not true so yes. Not true. It was laughable nonsence "produced" by the labor party (they even badged it). It wasn't even a press conference that would give people a chance to question Kristine who basically took any lib involvement in electric vehicle technology and fobbed it off as "evidence". "Here's Josh in an electric car".... same as us hey?

Considering how strongly the LNP came out against Labor's EV policy compared to their actual quotes, the only 'laughable nonsense' here is from you.

I hated our early hybrids in the work fleet. unless you pressed footbrake, gear shift and power in a certain order. it wouldnt start. not good in a vehicle in certain situations

A lot of modern cars are crap imo. Overburdened with gimmickry and electronic functions replacing mechanical ones.

Liberals, their media arm and posters saying its Shortens version of Hewsons birthday cake moment, even using the line "if he cant explain it, don't vote for it"
Sky is mounting a campaign on it, I can see the slogans now

Just one problem. Shorten didn't actually have a Hewson birthday cake moment.

The other problem is no one watches Sky.

IMO most tradies would be pretty cool with electric utes if they were an option. One thing tradies absolutely love is battery technology.

... He just lied on radio to justify the indefensible. This will hurt him imo. Brings back memories of all the chaotic policy from the Gillard Rudd era and reminds people its still the same chaotic team.

three letters NEG

nicely illustrates the coalition having both your negatives in spades

When the Libs divided up their campaign tasks between their remaining 6 or 8 members, which other jobs did you get beside wasting everybody's time on this site?
I'm just interested, that's all.

Exactly. Batteries have revolutionised worksites.
With all joking aside, because this will sound ridiculous, I'm very serious about this.

I think the key to getting electric vehicles off the ground is to have battery packs that sit on your garage wall and charge off your solar panels all day, then slot into your car.

Being able to take a spare battery with you eliminates the longer trip issues.

Energy density becomes the problem then, a box the size of a briefcase holding enough energy to move a 2t lump around at 100km/h would be quite a firework.

A shudder went through the electorate when Bill and Albo bought this thought bubble into the light and even the CFMEU owned polls dont count in a general election. All thats needed now is a boat.

It would be a very inconvenient time for a former immigration detention facility occupant to commit a terrorist attack over Easter or ANZAC day.

But if you were writing the Hollywood script it's exactly what would happen.
