Bit concerned right now re Billie Boy.

McCarthy has been out for a year and has played 1 senior game before he comes back and gets selected to play seniors before Smedts.

GFC gave Billie quite a few senior games before they decided he should go back to the VFL. They obviously believed just getting senior games into would work out - as he has the skill set to make it at the elite level of footy. But it did not pan out as they had wished.

Really Billie should be in front of McCarthy unless GFC see McCarthy as a better player going forward - he can contribute more now and into the future or that Billy has not done enough to warrant selection over a player like McCarthy - and they want him to work harder, do more on the field and/or make better decisions with footy in hand.

I have read Billie has the talent - but it just goes to show that application and willingness to learn and do the right thing really does count.

I really would have hoped he would have had a red hot go this pre-season to get himself in the team before boys like Jake K., Lang and JJ start showing their talents in VFL.

If Billie is going to make it I reckon he might have to be pretty god consistently in the VFL side - earn a reprieve and play well when given senior spot. And this better be before Motlop and Bundy come back. Otherwise he will find himself a fair bit away from the best 25/26.

Smedts is injured which is the reason he wasn't selected. Balme has already indicated that Smedts would have played if fit.

Thanks for that SOG - I had not read he was injured.

What is the injury ? When is due back ?

So he would have played ahead of McCarthy (or Murdoch) ? Is that what was implied by Balme as I do not know who else's spot he would have taken.

I thought Murder was quite good - better than McCarthy - so happy to see Billie take his senior spot - maybe even as a sub.

I didn't think either did much - Murdoch kicked a good goal and worked into it late - but both players are in the coach's pet category so they aren't going anywhere. I'm just hoping that Blicavs isn't the sub against Brisbane as he doesn't suit his one strength - endurance.

Bone bruising to his leg sustained in the last practice match against Nth. 2-3 weeks was the estimate.

Bobby_

Calling Bobby, come in Bobby.

I was going to ask you before the game to do something like you have just done with Brown.
But I thought it might be way too hard to make a vid of what people did around the ball. (not just possessions).

If you get a chance, can you do one of Murdoch please?

14 disposals and 5 tackles from a fairly high 82% game time.
4 inside 50's. Kicking efficiency at 86%
But the stats show zero 1%.

And I thought he had way more influence in that area.

I actually really liked his game.

Have you got me on ignore? I had already quoted you a post on that early last week.

I thought Murdoch was ok. Better than I expected and deserves another game. McCarthy looked ok but less so than Murdoch from what I saw. But McCarthy has had a long way to come back - 12 months of and very few VFL games to be AFL ready. So not a bad performance given this context.

Absolutely. We already think of Murdoch as experienced but he's still barely 20 games.
