I was expecting the reveal that Chuck was using Ice Juice as bait and I lost a lot of respect for Chuck's character when they confirmed it tbh. Ira came to him in confidence, with his heart on his sleeve and made it clear that this was the opportunity he'd been waiting his whole life for and Chuck just completely pissed it away for a speculative shot at petty revenge.

Even if the money is regained he's put his friend through hell here. Letting him have his wildest dreams come true for a brief moment only for him to lose everything. To make matters worse he just let Ira sit there and cop the blame for a 'bad investment'. How does he know that the guilt isn't going to push Ira to do something stupid? Also, even though the old man is a dick, look at how much much emotional strain he was under as a result of this "failure".

I know Axe wouldn't have acted any differently in these circumstances because he's ruthless but he's shown that he at least pauses to think before shafting people he cares about. Chuck risked the financial security of his entire family and completely screwed his closest friend without thinking anything of it.

It was a brilliant episode though. I just have two complaints: One being that Axe taking such a hands on role in the recruitment process for this operation just seems ridiculous to me. The second is that Chuck telling Wendy about being tied up in Ice Juice makes no sense unless he anticipates her going against him like that and with him hand picking Dake to lead this investigation I can't see why he'd have wanted that. Wendy is in trouble IMO.

Petty revenge? This wasn't simply a case of one-upmanship. This was a calculated plan to put away Axe for good. It's why Chuck exists, to bring down Axe. It's what's driven him from day one of the show.

Axe knows about the short that she took on the stock, which might save Axe from Chuck. If they try to charge Axe, he can bring her down as well.
And maybe that's the way it goes. Chuck gets his man, but loses his wife.

Yes, petty revenge. This whole season has featured plenty of it from both Chuck and Axe. Obviously they are each obsessed with bringing the other down but that doesn't mean their feud isn't extremely petty. Look at their interactions at Axe Cap in the S1 finale or the deposition scene in S2, Axe buying up Chuck's books, Chuck Sr tanking the Sandicot deal etc. This isn't about right or wrong or good vs evil anymore, it's a dick measuring contest.

Disagree. This isn't about pettiness.
This episode just demonstrated that they are both trying to land the knock out punch on each other, and it was evident that they put meticulous plans together to do so.

I think you're misunderstanding my post. When I say their feud is petty I'm not meaning to downplay how invested or how committed Axe and Chuck are to it. I'm aware that this is the central plot that the show and our two main character arcs revolve around. I'm not downplaying the scale of things here. I mean that this is petty in that the obsession they each have with defeating the other is incredibly small minded.

Axe and Chuck's game of cat n mouse is only second to Dexter vs The Trinity killer.

Great episode. I have a feeling that Ira will commit suicide.

Also anyone got Ocean 11 vibes from this episode?

I've got a similar feeling about Ira too. I really hope they don't go down that path though.

2/3 of the shows creators wrote Oceans 13 so I'd say that vibe was very deliberate.

I reckon Taylor was the highlight of this series. She was fantastic and a great addition to the cast and plot- the Axe and chuck battle is epic. Chuck's missus is just annoying.

Lets see how it plays out in series 3 particularly with Axe's wife.

I know this could sound seriously stupid, but I thought Taylor was a guy! Oh dear

That was my first thought when she invested, Chuck will have to chose between his wife or getting Axe. Potentially putting her in Jail as she will never be able to disprove collusion. It seems to be the one oversight Chuck made when telling her about the investment. But he was such an adamant pig to her about it, I couldn't figure out why. Perhaps a plot twist that will be expanded on next season.

Makes for good a dynamic between all parties next season.

I find both wives annoying. Maybe Wendy a bit less annoying. But Axe's wife tilts me, don't think the actress who plays her is much chop.
