You actually watch footage 70's and 80's and you can see players flinch at contact they expect from a dodgy wack to the back of the head. In 2022 you pull out of a contest it is all over the media if not in media it is being highlighted in front of team mates at match review meetings but players can attack the ball knowing they are unlikely to be sniped. I think they are braver now.
In both eras I am your typical couch potato fan saying they need to go in harder knowing if thats me out I would be the number 1 softest player on the ground with no right to criticise at all.

Oh 1000% I would be weak as piss and back out of every contest going around. Today's players are way tougher and more courageous

Again, the irony being that the ones in the media driving the "don't back out" are the same players from the old era where plenty of them flinched or backed out

Phil Carman hinted at what a player with sensational skills AND elite fitness could offer.
Carman at the time often sat in the social club while all other players trained. Hafey gave him this benefit because he ripped it up on game day.

True story. Naturally fit and gifted player.

Millane similar to him.

Not true and I have heard Carmen speak of this himself and admit his fault. He was a fulltime footballer when that was pretty unknown. He did long training sessions during the day at Vic Park and then questioned Hafey why he needed to train with the team at night when he had already done so much. He was a fitness fanatic who trained very hard. It was a source of friction with Hafey and part of their undoing, Hafey didnt give him that benefit, he went against advice and Hafey put up with it for a while.

A lot less scrutiny. Less cameras. Less review of available footage. Players got away with a lot more.
Try playing in the old VFA in the early 80's. I still have to deep scars under my left eye socket from some of the best punches I've ever recieved

Not understanding the benefits of training with the team is precisely why he failed so badly at a team sport.

I'm pretty sure he's done this at least once if not more because he didn't like Hafey. Perhaps he did this when he was outed by the tribunal. Still should have been training.
According to Carman himself he would go to the Social club after training and sink too many beers.

He was a gifted athlete and trained and partied hard. A bit like Millane.

Such a pity he threw it all away.
He has deep regrets about leaving Collingwood.

I'm friends with the Gabelich, Twomey, Delanty and Daicos family.
Second hand stories with some truth I believe.

What Gone Critical said. Trained his arse off. Even post AFL he was laying concrete all day and still going for a run after work.

Frampton at moment to me is a Back Up IF Moore goes down Injured or needs a Rest

Being a fan of his recruitment and a defender of his potential… I’m a little underwhelmed so far

But I think he’s still pretty green… not just in term of the role, but the defensive system too

Pies were spoilt with Dunn and Roughead both taking to that role at Collingwood like a duck to water

Just have to be patient. Will have his brain fades as he develops. Not many other options atm

He is 26 Years Old so he needs to Pretty Quickly

I can't say I'm surprised that he's coming pretty much as advertised from his time with the Power and Crows. Looked really lost at times defending, not great timing on his attempts to spoil and Greene made him look slow to react on the (short) lead with no real closing speed evident and under-sized in the strength battles at times. Looks ok with ball in hand though.

A lot of work to do to even become a reasonably competent man-on-man KPD at AFL level, which is really what we need him to become.

Underwhelmed so far, but kinda expected as much from him coming in. I am hoping that maybe he will find a role and be useful in that. I'm hoping he's just a very slow starter and will do something useful if called upon. At least my hopes are that. Fingers crossed,
