Looking in ripping nick at yesterday's training on the website. Backing the kid in for a big one next year. He has worked really hard over the break.
Was thinking the same. He looks in ripping condition. Seems really determined. I’m backing him in for a big year.

Have seen a bit of him on social media training at the strength and conditioning coaches (Rob Jackson I think) gym.
They call it 'The Cage' and Stretch, Maynard and Harmes have spent a bit of time there lately.
Stretch looks to have bulked up a sh*tload.
The one knock on him is that he gets pushed off the ball a bit too easy so if he can hold his own a bit, he'll become close to, if not best 22 by years end IMO as he's a very neat footballer.

Yep, given our lack of dependable ball users Stretch's development into a best 22 player will probably be one of the more important factors to our improvement. Salem in a similar category - needs to stay in the team (keep fit and not suspended).

He is looking ripping but i am worried it might affect his pace, we are slow as it is.

Depends where the weight is being gained, if you are getting viney style guns then its going to pace of you.

He hasn't put on an ounce of fat and developed muscle, he may even be lighter than last year. The condition stretch is in there is no chance he will lose pace.

It does make sense to a degree. If you just bulk up with mirror muscles (which is what we're all going gaga about), you're not going to be as quick as before.

Have a look at his legs, his arms have developed along with the rest of the body. It's just counter intuitive to think the condition he is in will hinder his pace. He is most likely leaner and faster than last year.

We need to recruit pacey run and carry.

The existing guys like Stretch just need to keep an elite work ethic to get themselves into a senior role - he basically needs to push someone else out.

Still a couple of good midfielders short IMO, need Brayshaw, ANB, and/or Tyson to step up. Also need to see the Hogan/TMac duo put it together

True. But the ingredients are there and are starting to come together.

For instance our backline looks suspect now we have one AA player from 2017 and 2 AA squad players from 2017 in it.

If OMac or Frost come good it’s one of the best backlines in the league, I reckon. Big ask still though.

Anyway, OT.

Lets calm on Stretch - its easy to look good when the seniors are missing, hes always been very fit.

He needs to use his attributes in games.

I was comparing stretch of 2017 to 2016 there is a big difference. He is borderline best 22 but has given himself the best chance to play his best footy next year. At least it hasn't taken 9 years to figure that out

If memory serves Stretch has always been brilliant during pre season. I think Oliver followed him around last pre season hence the massive improvement he made

I think I remember reading stretch would shadow jones, the more young blokes follow senior players like jones who set the right example it will become infectious

This is why I had no problem with Viney being appointed co-captain. He sets high standards and if blokes like ANB, Oliver, Petracca etc follow his work ethic, then the club can only improve.
