Vale the mutton bird
Flys from Alaska to Tassie and back every year and is now starving to death

Lack of food ..Over fishing, climate change both ????

Got the black kite just doing laps out the front of my place at hand rail height and lower in real close
At times he has been maybe 10 metres away from me and 2 and a bit metres off the ground
Just stunning
It so dry the poor bugger is probably hungry and looking for a feed of brunch, he is hovering over every tree and patch of long grass and patrolling the road

Went to bed last night and heard this clicking screeching sound right outside the window
Got out on the balcony had a listen worked out its location and quickly shone a torch 2 owls

Listened to all the variations of sounds on the web site pretty sure its the greater sooty owl
As a result of the clearing of old-growth forests, Greater Sooty Owl populations have been fragmented and reduced.
They are now listed as ‘vulnerable‘ in New South Wales, ‘threatened’ in Victoria and ‘rare’ in Queensland.
