I'm purchasing a Nikon d500 to get out birding in the future. Been a long time coming.

Built my own aviaries as a kid and bred finches and quail for many years until the time to dedicate to them vanished.

Certified bird nerd.

Tawny frog mouth at the You Yangs a while ago. Most think they are owls.

Anglesea Caravan Park is a good place to get up nice and close to them if you're lucky.

Finally got hold of the camera and lens and took it out for a spin on the weekend to test it out. The guys came out to see what I was up to.

Tried to use the low light background to get a silhouette effect. Think it was a couple of Ravens.

Think this is an example of me stuffing up the auto focus mode and using single point instead of group.

It's picked the middle right bird as the target and hasn't picked up on the other birds as well.

Literally been out twice taking some pics at a local park and walking track.

Yet the gear makes it look like I know what I'm doing

I’ve been thinking about a good camera and a friend told me that was the way to go
