Solid phantom, but I would be super disappointed if the Roos picked up Clarke and Walker and missed on Fisher and Bolton with the next 2 picks. Bolton especially seems like the kind of player we would be jumping at the chance to get.

Do you take in team needs for the draft? Or is it purely a best available pick at that point?

Both needs & best available. Early days always best available. I just get the feeling of 'go home' factor for Bolton & not sure Fisher suits Nth Melbourne.

Wow Bolton slides to us at 40??

I get the feeling of 'go home' factor with Shai. We'll see.

Fair enough, is the go home factor of Bolton based on something you've heard from recruiters?

And I'd disagree on fisher, you've definitely seen more of him than me, but from I've read and seen he plays a high energy, inside-outside game, much like our best recent pick up in Clarke. More of that would suit north perfectly.

Have heard plenty of tid bits- but that doesn't mean they're all accurate. We'll see.

Fisher is going to need to add a lot of size to his body- I couldn't see him playing much senior footy early days. Putting on a bit of weight might affect how he plays, was a lot more inside at U18s - But I couldn't see him doing that at AFL level.

Sam Walker?

We really don't need another medium defender.

I don't like us picking up an inside mid, but Dylan Clarke is a bull by all accounts, so I can't fault you on that.

Love the phantom draft Bishop,
Just wondering what the weakness is for Jack Maibaum, just seeing as he was all Australian full back. Is it mainly his height?

I rate Walker very highly- if he was there at that pick I'd have no questions taking him. I rate him better than some of Nths other rebounding defenders.

Below average speed and leap isn't great. A good lock down defender, but has played forward at times for Eastern & Melbourne Grammar when I've seen him. All Australian doesn't mean a lot in my own eyes, some felt others like Logue deserved it- some players get picked on names at times. Think he's going to be a 30-50 pick.

Then I would rather a Rotham type if you are talking pure rebounders, with genuine leg speed. However we don't lack medium defenders and in any case, our rebounders in Tarrant, Wright and Macmillan are fine as medium/taller rebounders, we only need a Cedric Cox type tbh to complement them with pace and added class, due to Atley's poor form as a small medium rebounder. However, I appreciate your appraisal and your work you put in. Do you see Cox slipping to us?

Our primary problems are in the midfield, our outside pace and class is poor at best in the midfield. We also need a decent in and out mid with pace and class.

Who would you be happy with then?
For a start. I would be horrified if we only took two picks. There is no way I would use pick 56 on Ratugolea either. Pick 82 at the earliest for a short ruckman. If it works out the way Bishop has the picks going, I'd take Mitch McCarthy at 56, Oscar Junker at 82 and Reece Piper or Goy Lok at 102.

What do you think of max lynch? Will GWS get him and where abouts?

As mentioned above- GWS haven't nominated him so can be taken in the open pool. Thought he got better as the season went on- I'd personally take English & Olango ahead of him (maybe even Ladhams).

North have kept a very close eye on Cedric. Do they jump at 12.... Maybe - but he won't be there at their picks in the 30s.

I wouldn't be taking Goy Lok at all- Junker too slow for me & just didn't impressive me when I've seen the Jets this season at all. Really like McCarthy though.

Different strokes. Lok came 5th in the Morrish. Junker is still growing. Bont was slow at his age too (still not quick). You'd take him at 91 for Geelong but not 82 for Richmond?

Enjoyed the phantom Bishop. Yours is one i look forward to.

I've been thinking for a while that i'd be secretly pleased if SOS read out Petrevski-Seton @ 5. Like most, i'm finding it hard to split him, Brodie and Taranto but SPS has been getting way less love than the others on our Board.

I also agree with your placement of Florent. I think most pushing him right up to the 10-15 mark is a bit much personally.

I've got a gut feel that GC will/should take Berry with their Pick 10 too. An ultimate pro and leader. They need a young one like that. I think he'll be a better version of Josh Dunkley. Has all the same credentials/recommendations coming out of the AFL Academy as Dunkley had.
I'm getting a serious Dunkley vibe from Berry also. Good comparison.

Did you miss Junker running down Cedric Cox in the all stars game Bishop?

Do you think he'd be a good pick for Hawthorn? Will he last that late?

Maibaum no chance of being there at 88 I'd have thought.

The Sandy blokes on the table were laughing at how Lok came 5th that night- Very unlikely to be drafted from what I hear.

I'm just not a fan of Junker- there are others I like. I don't like Junker playing key position and even then, I don't think he's a midfielder at AFL level. There are others I'd pick ahead of him.

One swallow doesn't make a summer, I know he's done a fair bit of work with the conditioning lads at Western, but not a fan personally & that's my opinion. We'll see in 4-5 seasons time how that opinions goes :p

Hey Bish, you know that Barry Hall quote in your sig? That's been attributed to about 176 different people over the years. I doubt anyone ever said it.

Maybe maybe not haha - I looked up something the first day I joined, thought it was funny so ran with it. :D

I hope not. Very happy with your Venebles pick for us. Would offer something different to our midfield. Very happy you let Florent slide past us to. A few questions
1. Is our 3rd pick to early for Parfit.
2. IS 11 to early to bid on Mcreadie I see you had him rated quite high early in the year. Was it injury or form that has him drop so far in the draft?
3. Is there a limit to deficit clubs can take into the next year with academies and F/S bidding?

Thanks.

From memory I believe there is. In theory, each team can win the title, so it's the cumulative total from adding picks 18, 36, 54 & 72. If you trade in more picks, then you can add more points to your points deficit. So GC already have four second round picks next year, so I imagine they can add the points value of picks 33, 34 & 35 to their total.

From what I hear it's Cox,Venables & Florent the likely three to be at Nth. Things can change mind you...

1. In my opinion yes. I don't rate him in the 30s/ish

2. I still rate him in the 20s, I think he struggled because he wants to play as an offensive defender eg; Hybrid defender like Rotham or Scrimshaw rather than as a defensive KPD like a Logue/Garthwaite type. Is it too early, probably. I don't think GWS would match at #11 put it that way.

3. Not 100% with that- but I don't think GWS/GC/BL will want too big of a deficit. Gold Coast have a plethora of 2nd rounders for example in 2017- so wont have any issues going into deficit with a bid on Brad Scheer in the 2016 second round affecting them next year.

Hey sorry I meant Max lynch lasting till 88

Sorry! Too many messages to keep up with- Yes, I think he could be around there. Olango a better bet for me if he's there.

Bish, a quick question re Cox. It seems to me from looking at his stats from TAC that he is pretty much a receiver and thats it. Does he show any tendancy to develop a good contested game or is it likely that he remains more outside at AFL? I ask as regardless of Norths apparent list weaknesses I think it more important that the club gets a more rounded midfield option at 11 rather than a predominantly outside type.

He's an outside player- no doubting that. Can play HFF or HBF (or wing) but looks suited and I think he wants to play his best footy at HBF from speaking with him.

34.2% of his total possessions won in the TAC Cup were contested.
