Bishop's 2016 Draft Thread

Hi Bishop
With very little splitting the top 2 or 3 guys in this draft I have to assume that the leadership and character traits that McGrath possesses will get him across the line to be the bombers choice at number 1 and I couldn't be happier to welcome him to the club if that is who we pick.
There are a few clubs, namely us, GC and Brisbane who have had cultural problems recently and so should be looking at guys who will potentially be future leaders and drive the cultural reform into the future.
I don't know the guy but would Ainsworth's suspension earlier in the year when he broke the Cannon players jaw out of frustration be a warning sign to Clubs ? or would clubs like GC and Brisbane look past that potential flaw in his character and pick him purely on talent alone ? I know he mentioned he would have no problem moving interstate but most young guys would say that not to jeopardise their draft chances. I would much rather an SPS, Brodie, Taranto etc based on this alone.

Hey Bish, it wouldn't surprise if Jobe suddenly retires.. with this in mind, do you think this pushes Essendon to lean more to Setterfield at one?

Neither player know either way what is happening. I'm still confident on McGrath.

I think that incident will be in the back of clubs heads- it was a pretty nasty incident. But at the end of the day, I think they'll look at the talent alone. For me Ainsworth is a bit of a FIGJAM- Similar to how Christian Petracca came across.

I think Ainsworth would be fine going interstate like most kids are.

I saw your updated Phantom Draft and you have us pick Sam Powell-Pepper. Do you think that St Kilda and Geelong will pass up on him? Many others have St Kilda picking him up in their Phantom Drafts.

Two things though:
  • I think you misspelt Harrison Burt. [Edit: my mistake...there seems to be both! :huh:]
  • I assumed that Freo would use their 5th pick.

They should take him- but others they have ahead get through to where I have it. Most likely it'll be SPP- But 2nd rounders are the hardest to pick.

Harrison Bult & Harrison Burt make it tough! Definitely left footed tall Bult who I have going to the dogs!

I think Freo will pass it- we'll see.

I can't see us moving away from a 39/5 squad structure, and we currently only have 34 on our senior list. Neither of our two remaining rookies (Nyhuis and Uebergang) are likely to be promoted. Do you expect Freo to have a crack at the pre-season draft, or do you think we'll drop to a 38/6 structure?
