Hi Bishop, first time post. Have been reading for a few years now.

Wondering why Fremantle would take brander at 5 if noughton is rated 6. Being a wa lad I'd have thought we would take the home grown option if they are close on talent...

Is their a large discrepancy in talent? Can you give your reasons please?

Thanks love your work!

I think Freo have a decent set of defenders and wouldn't make sense for me to take Naughton. I don't have Naughton ranked that highly myself - but I feel Brander can fit better. I reckon he can fit their tall forward needs, while I think he could develop into a similar player to Naughton (I don't think they're that far apart skill wise)

In saying all this - I wouldn't be surprised to see Freo trade down from what I'm hearing.

A trade down would be helpful with the rebuild going on, as long as we get that big key forward we desperately need.

Thats two disappointing efforts in 2 weeks for Jarrod. Feel he is more 10-20 than 1-10. Appleby very solid! Thought Domic was good in patches, Meek rucked superbly, Bullen and Cox dangerous forward.
Pioneers
Davis....hardly touched it kicked a goal
Schumacher- Another to have a bad day
Farrell- A good solid performance, used his run and kick well
B Henderson- did a couple of nice things but an average performance
O'Brien- Consistent, not brilliant but named best
Daniels - worked hard and kicked a nice goal, good run and carry
D Henderson- his inside work was really good, hands good, kick average, great tackling
I thought Kane Farrell and Darby Henderson were both better than Lochie O'Brien on the day and Brent Daniels was lively and that little No.11 Lucas Caccaviello did several nice plays for Pios.

Rebels : Lloyd Meek outstanding in Ruck and handy around the ground, Domic and Johnston had their moments in and around the contest, Appleby solid as ever, Cox a real goer.....also really liked [33] Lochie Dawson's attack at the contest today, unlucky to not be named in the bests.

I reckon that there are a couple that can get rookied without an invite. Why the hell Brander wasn't put at CHB against the wind is bewildering. Pioneers have the names on paper but no real game plan
After watching that today you are absolutely spot on.:thumbsu:

First game I have watched of the pios this year. There were lots of turnovers in the game due to not many blokes able to kick

Just on Brander he looked brilliant up forward against gippsland, I don't think his teammates have helped him at all since then.

I'm very confident he looks better forward he is an intelligent player and something I really liked was his ability to not just fly for marks but read the ball of hands.

Makes it hard. Even school footy with Dow/O'Brien kicking him the ball it wasn't always much better.

Played his one good game in the Champs on Riley Jones who played KPF - hard one to gauge for me.

Hey Bishop, would you say their is a gulf between the top four players in this draft? it seems like a decisive top 4 and if you had to say which was the 'safest' pick of the top four or so selections who would it be? Cheers!

Quality person etc from what Ive seen and heard. Will work his way out of it and be a very good AFL player..just out of top 10 atm

There was a kid called Paddy Dow playing that day ;) Its what the Pios lack, good foot skills. Lochie O'Brien is the one to turn to and tbh today won't be a game he will want to remember particularly. He wasn't horrible, but he certainly didn't have any considerable impact on the contest. Was mediocre I'd say.

I think the four I'd have at the moment is Cerra, Davies-Uniacke, Dow & Rayner : But clubs I've spoken to don't have the same top 4. So for me, I wouldn't say there's much of a gulf. It's pretty even across the board I reckon inside that top 10.

Inside midfielders are always the safest. Depends what you define as the safest - I think for me Paddy Dow will be pretty safe, but more so than past years most of the top 10 have more ? marks than past seasons.

Hey bishop where would you rate Appleby at the moment. I see he keeped Kirby to 1 goal the other week if I'm correct?

I'd be interested to hear which other players clubs rate in the top 5 and top 10.

Do not have to name the clubs. Just Club X has so and so and so and so, etc.

Literally discussed end of previous page and beginning of this page.

Joined 25 mins ago and it's his first post. I think we can put two and two together.

Still likely to be undrafted. Very good at shutting down - but AFL isn't played like that for a 186cm player. Need to be able to rebound the ball and do more than shut down etc.

He shows great composure and skill when he does get the ball. He didn't get any combine invites but I know for a fact a few recruiters atleast have as a player to note down at games.

History suggests he won't get selected but he will definetley go to VFL and I feel his type make their way to AFL eventually

I know a few clubs have noted things down on him at times - but history suggest he isn't going.

If he heads to VFL needs to boost his rebound 50 numbers - doesn't do enough of that for me to really impact the contest. Well composed nevertheless.

Regardless, I think Mr Appleby can be proud his son/relative is playing well and is probably the premier stopper in the TAC Cup, even if those traits or in particular role is not AFL friendly.

Fair enough but he's been more and more prepared to leave his man recently and help teammates kill a contest especially as a 3rd man up in marking contests and has shown some ability to take the game on with run and rebound. I could see him playing a similar role to Adelaide's Luke Brown on both dangerous medium and small forwards, certainly wouldn't be expected to take on some of the KPP's he's had at TAC level at times. Also must be remembered he's not surrounded by a lot of class in this year's Rebel defence.
