Bishop Thoughts on Brent Daniels (Vic Country and Bendigo Pioneers)?

Really explosive and power small. Wins the contested footy when he plays on the inside at Geelong Grammar/Bendigo Pioneers and knows where the goals are when he is up forward. Is highly rated from those who have played with/against him.

Reckon he's draftable and would consider him as a 3rd round + prospect. Has speed and goal sense which is vital in any modern day small forward.

Hey bish, thoughts on loch obrien this far into the season? He dropped off a bit or not done as well as you'd expect of him this year. Still a top 10 pick?

Looked at his number. Google and big footy are your friend. There was a recent article about him. Missed all of last year and had a hip injury. I thought he played like an afl player. Had some things to do at home. Missed train! I almost stayed for more of the match but that would have been silly.

The Geelong Addy obviously rate him. Same as most of the Falcons kids. Hopefully he has a better draft result than Brett Blair last year.

Been well down on what was expected at the start of the year - been tagged well out of multiple games for Geelong Grammar. Has one of the best left foot kicks in the draft.

Had just the 2 disposals to half time on Saturday and was struggling big time - but had an exceptional last half finishing with 18 disposals showing what we hopefully will see more of in the final two games.

Still a top 10 pick - but closer to 10 than I had at the start of the year.

Hey Bish, while I know he hasn't set the world on fire so far this year, I loved the way Stephenson moved in the clip by giantroo of his game on the weekend and was wondering if you have any of his 20m sprint times pls? Looks to have terrific speed for someone of 189cm.

2.96s over 20m - He hasn't set the world on fire, I can't see him being a wingman/High HF role that they are playing him as - I liken him more to the Will Hayward role at Sydney Swans. In saying all this, he's the type of player that will perform well on the big stage in the next two games so will hold off judgement for the moment, but he's still around my Top Five.

Pity we haven't seen his marking yet like what he delivered in the TAC Cup GF as a U16 in the video below:

Still waiting on my Brayshaw results ;)

I'm not worried about Stephenson at all clubs know what he is capable of his final last year was nuts

As you said in a previous thread can only judge a player off what they have seen of player RE Fogarty discussion.
Stephenson has some work to do for the hype around him. Has had a slow start to the champs but hoping two see some fire from him in the last two games of the champs (I'm sure we are all waiting for this). Penciled him in start of the season at pick 6, currently not there.

Hasn't been played in his preferred position which is deep forward, has been tested on a wing in the champs and obviously that won't be his role at AFL level

Cheers Bish. I've seen it a lot over the years where someone who has been killing it in the juniors for years has a bit of a meh year in their draft year, but then hit the ground running immediately at AFL level, and we're probably seeing another example of that with SPS this year and it wouldn't surprise me if JS is another one of them.

He'll almost certainly play forward at an AFL club next year and will probably go great guns.

If he really improves in the midfield/wing or high-HF roles this year that will probably just be a bonus.

Why do you think he has been played out of position?
To better is game or to potentially show viewers a flip side of his forward line ability?

I think to give recruiters an idea of what he can do in other positions. He will be an elite forward so maybe they see no need in playing him forward. Gives other players a chance in that role aswell

Played deep forward against Sandringham a month ago. Had 6 touches in the first half, 4 were ineffective/clangers.

Needs to develop midfield capability as he can be blanketed as a deep forward.

You must be thinking of a different game his last game against Sandy he had 26 touches and a goal

HedgeFund is correct he had 6 touches in the first half, 4 were ineffective/clangers. - But yes he did finish with 26 disposals.

Ended up with a good game at the end so I don't see what the problem is, he showed he was able to get into the game after that surely that counts for something

He had to be moved up to the wing to find the footy. Was well held when playing in his favourite role. Good on him for contributing strongly when he was released up the ground.

My point was there's no point trying to pigeon hole him as a deep forward.

Frankly it's not working well for the likes of Jake Stringer. The more strings Jayden can add to his bow, the better for him in the long run.

He certainly needs to add that string, but he does look a little lost at times. I do love his running power and marking. If only he looked at touch more natural in the midfield.

I agree he shouldn't be pigeon holed but I'd be suprised if he wasn't standing out playing as a pure Forward in the Championships if they went that way and we wouldn't even have the discusssion.

Also I do agree with giving him that extra dimension just making the case that many wouldn't be questioning his rankings if he was kept forward

Does keeping him forward a one trick pony? Aren't clubs looking for boys that can be played in more than one position?

Yes and that's why he has been playing on the Wing in the Championships
