Hi Bishop, this is what Chris Fagan said post our loss to North in round 23 re pick 1-

“Looking for that hybrid guy that can win it on the inside and spread,” Fagan said.

Who do you see as the best in this draft at that?

I read that a lot of phantom drafters compare Cameron Rayner to Christian Petracca, If both were in the same draft (just considering Petracca's pre draft form) who would you have selected and who do you see as having the higher ceiling?

I think it's obvious that it'll be one of Adam Cerra, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Paddy Dow & Cameron Rayner. All of them have shown this time they can win the ball on the inside and spread, Adam Cerra I reckon spreads very well, as well as LDU. However - the Lions have the worst CP numbers in the competition, and I'd argue that Dow's higher CLRs and CP numbers from the U18 Champs means he's the one I'd take at the moment.

I'd take Petracca out of the two - had a better endurance base & I reckon a lot of their traits are similar (strong mark etc). I was a huge fan of Petracca - but I didn't follow the draft as closely that year as I do now to be fair.

Hey Bishop
We have seen in the last 10 or so years the AFL becoming very much a follow the leader comp.If Cotchin is lifting the cup on the last day in September and it's a very big if. Does that in anyway change draft boards and philosophies and do we see the talls slide??

I don't think so - talls can be leaders too! Plenty of TAC Cup teams this year & in the past are captained by talls - there's plenty of talls in the AFL that are leaders. It doesn't necessarily have to be a midfielder.

I hear Rebel Tom Scott got suspended, did Cannon Aubrey Coote get time too?

Believe so.

Hey mate do you think that Rhylee west could potentially push top 10 in next years draft if he keeps up this rate of development from the start of the year? And what type of player is he? Inside or outside? Does he have many tricks ?

I don't think so. Not for me at least. Very good ball winner, but is a scrubber going forward. Hacks a lot of balls out of stoppages and at times this year his kicking has been pretty poor. What he does have is that he can crack in and win a contested ball. There's at least 20 names I'd have ahead of him for next year at this stage.

Has also updated the opening few posts with the updated rankings & a 1st round Phantom Draft. Happy to have a debate on anything and why certain players fell where etc.

(Sorry about the delay - pub called)

Post 3: Phantom Draft

Post Round 23 - (Will do a Full Phantom Draft post trade week - but it's pointless at the moment)

Pick 1: Brisbane Lions: Paddy Dow

Pick 2: Gold Coast: Adam Cerra

Pick 3: Carlton: Luke Davies-Uniacke

Pick 4: North Melbourne: Cam Rayner

Pick 5: Fremantle: Jarrod Brander

Pick 6: Collingwood: Aaron Naughton

Pick 7: St Kilda: Jaidyn Stephenson

Pick 8: St Kilda: Nicholas Coffield

Pick 9: Western Bulldogs: Andrew Brayshaw

Pick 10: Melbourne: Jack Higgins

Pick 11: West Coast: Hunter Clark

Pick 12: Essendon: Noah Balta

Pick 13: Sydney: Lochie O'Brien

Pick 14: Brisbane Lions: Joel Garner

Pick 15: Richmond: Sam Hayes

Pick 16: Richmond: Matt Ling

Pick 17: Adelaide: Darcy Fogarty
I'll spew if St Kilda take those two right before us. Also no Constable?

Good chance I reckon. I can't see them taking another Aaron Francis type.
Not sure we take a Balta type either. Id say one of the Eastern boys Hayes or Garner would be the better fits. Garner to allow McGrath to go into the middle full time or Hayes to take over Tbell in a few years.

Hayes was the other I considered & would make the case that Richmond takes the other. But a Phantom Draft is about putting players where you've heard little whispers here and there - hence why I have Balta at the Dons selection ;)

Fair enough I heard very early in the year that we where interested but im very sure most clubs are haha. The Calder Cannons link would be strong we tend to focus on that area quite a bit, we have Daniel Hanna available to our academy but not sure we will even consider him for a rookie.

Also happy 2,000 post :p

I reckon you'll take Hanna as an Academy pick.

Interesting that you've gone Higgins for Melbourne. I don't know their ranking at this point in time but last I heard Clarke, O'Brien and Constable would be ahead for their pick.

Is that an opinion or something you have heard?

Just what I'm hearing at the moment.

I struggled with the Dees pick. For me it was too early to take an outside type like O'Brien or Ling, Clark is one I could see them possibly consider - but I went with Higgins. They've got Oliver a big bodied inside mid - not sure they'd opt for another 'slow' IM -but I firmly rate Constable in my top handful or so of players.

Higgins has really improved for me since moving to a full time small forward.

They're willing to sacrifice rankings for needs, unless by sheer luck someone like LDU slips to their pick, which is outside mids and a 3rd tall defender (which they're pretty confident in getting with Lever).

Curious as to what you think of a couple of my potential VFL draftees: Brett Bewley, Bailey Fritsch and Nick Hind?

Geez....Vics make up 20 of your top 25 positions....Time those other states started pulling up their shoe-laces.

Worpel at 35 would be the only query for mine....Though I understand his disposal isn't as clean as some....He's a natural inside footballer though & a contested beast.

We'll see. I don't anticipate they have that pick anyway with a likely Lever trade - I've got a good inkling who they might like a bit later, but will save that closer to the draft.

I haven't seen enough of any of them to give you anything accurate. Fritsch is the only one that has really come up in conversations I've had with those at club land out of those three.

It's no surprise it's going to be a heavy TAC Cup draft as people have called it for most of the season.

Worpel's got some downfalls to him - and yes those contested mids never have high KEs but I'm just not sold at the moment, and from speaking to clubs thats a similar range to what they've got. Finals will be interesting to see how he goes and I'll be watching him closely over the weekend.

Dylan Clarke was very similar, CP/Clearance numbers were very high - but poor kick and look where he ended up...

Inside mids are always the safest come draft time.

Oh, it's unlikely, unless they go for the future 1st round and this year's second (which I doubt Adelaide accept). I think I know who your inkling will be and I think you'd be right to put him there.

Interesting that you mocked Joel Garner to Lions at 14. You're the second draft watcher to pick Garner at 14 to the Lions.

I haven't heard anything regarding that specific pick and them 'liking' Garner or anything - but looked as the best pick for me.
