I would be staggered if Murphy lands in top 6 let alone top 10 and i have had him in my top 20 for quite a while
Any club that would take murphy in front of stephenson would have rocks in their head

Yep saw Connor play a fair few times this year. Handy midfielder, agile at the stoppages and can burst forward. Does need to clean up his kicking - but does some good things.
Hope he gets a growth spurt going on, but yeah I liked his game at Mars Stadium a lot.

Hey Bishop,

Curious as to your thoughts on how Todd Marshall compares to this year's tall forwards, especially those that may fall around Port's (now Brisbane's) pick 12, had we kept it?

Stephenson could be off the board anyway - I don't think he lands in the top 6. But Freo and Collingwood have watched him very very closely.

Bishop who would you rather draft, Paddy Dow or Sam Walsh. Forget that Walsh is draft eligible until next year. You're drafting on potential as to has who you believe will have the better long term career.

Hard one. I'd take Sam Walsh, he oozes class & skill. Dow has some Dangerfield traits. Both top 5 kids anyway.

I'd take Brander over Marshall, but don't think he'd be there at Pick 12 this year as he's probably gone before then. Oscar Allen another, but he probably falls outside top 20 for me at the moment & I'd take Todd over him.

Thanks Bishop.

What is it about Brander (or Todd) that makes you prefer one over the other?

Our own draft guru missionpossible has Brander pegged as a defender, with Darling as a comparison for his forward ability.

The darling reference might have been a ceiling reference rather than a player comparison.

I'm biased as all hell but I would have Marshall >>>>>>>>>>> well over brander. It doesn't seem like there is much of a gap between brander and key defenders that will slide well into the 20s/30's

Also have Marshall well well above someone like Allen. Marshall is already tracking miles ahead of where people thought he would be.

Was good timing (planning also) for us Marshall being available when he was.

don't blow your wad too early

Hey Bishop.

I'm shopping for a third tall and don't know a lot about this draft.

I'm looking for a real third tall who doesn't need to be a mid / forward. Natural footballer who leads well and pops up in the right place. Clean hands and an accurate kick requires. Ideally doesn't play for frees a lot. Doesn't need to be incredibly athletic but able to do repeat leads and chase / tackle. Not short or fat. Nice sized clean competitive player!

Wooller / Houlahan and Kreuger are the names that seem to fit?

We're talking second round pick...early 30's.

Cheers!

Sorry. I thought of one more criteria. When we miss him on the lead he needs to be able to turn around and ideally pick up the ball and give it to someone in a better position rather than throwing his arms up into the air and being sad.

I agree, I'd peg Brander as a defender. But I've seen enough of him up forward that I'd still take him over Marshall. Just reckon he's a better kick and mark than Marshall. Not a lot between them though, toss of the coin job - but for me I'd take Brander.

I reckon Nathan Murphy & Jordan Houlahan would be two that fit the bill, I'd expect Murphy to be off the board by then - maybe even Houlahan, though more of a chance for me.

Both good marks and are agile, and will give repeat efforts.

Wooller plays more as a tall forward, so hasn't really been a chance playing as a third tall as at TAC Cup level he's often been the Chargers' No.1 tall. While Kreuger has probably played a bit more as a flanker/in multiple positions throughout the year. Been a very hard one to read.

Hey Bish, a few questions:

1. I saw William Walker for the first time yesterday and I was extremely impressed with his clean hands and kicking skills. Is he a chance at Essendon's second pick? I'd love to take him there if available
2. Cassidy Parish for me was in the top 5 on the ground yesterday and his composure in traffic was brilliant to watch. Is he rising up the draft boards at all? At a guess I'd say he had 7 or 8 clearances from where I was sitting
3. Sargeant Constable produced a great GF, will he be top 10 or will Essendon be a chance at getting him if we don't trade 11 for Stringer?
4. Ethan Floyd was impressive, plus he has the best first name in the draft (isn't that right D_P_S?)

1. Walker fits in somewhere in the 20-30 region it's looking likely. I've been a big knock on his kick all year, I don't personally have him inside my top 30 - but that's where he probably falls. Got some exciting traits, his kick isn't great & that's one of the traits I really like in a player. But he's come from a soccer background and there's a bit to work with.

2. Parish had 28 disposals and six clearances. Was good again - I don't think he's surging up, if anything a few clubs I've spoken to have pretty much cut him off their list. The fact that a few of them have said "I hope he gets a chance" says to me they aren't too sure if he will. I still peg him as a late pick/rookie, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him go in the rookie draft. Is a genius at the stoppages, but the rest of his game will need a lot of work.

3. I've got Constable pegged as a top 6 pick - but gut feel is that the sides inside the top 10 won't take him - at least with the picks how they are at the moment. So Essendon a chance at 11, that latest I've heard RE: Stringer is it's more likely Geelong at the moment, but we'll see how that plays out.

4. Floyd's been good in finals - but I do get worried at some occasions he can be quite timid and outside. One I'd consider 30+ - but there's other similar players I really like as late 1st/early 2nds.

Bishop.

Off topic but:

1: Have you got tickets to the GF?
2: Have you got the GF Record?
3: Are you excited or nervous?

On topic and thought Miers played himself into a draft spot and thought McLean presented well.
Sarge likewise.

1. Yes
2. No
3. Both

I had Miers pegged as a 2nd rounder coming into tonight, things didn't change for me. But probably thought he was more 30s than 20s, I've got him ranked outside my top 30 though.

McLean strong first half, but lacks speed/athleticism/agility - which those big men tend to struggle

Constable just doing what he's done all year, people only starting to wake up now.

Hey bud

Good thread.

Agree re Miers - I have had him pegged around 20 for a long time.

Re Walker I am a bit more bullish than you. yeah his kick at times is average but he plays inside the contest a lot. what i really like about him is he can move between forward and mid and have fantastic impact. I've been bullish for a while.

Stephenson is a top 6 pick for me. He has just been outstanding in the back half of the year. Some of his moments in the last 6 weeks been as good as anyones.

Parish kicking is a big issue. Keep hearing in the games I havent watched him its gotten better but in the games I've watched it hasnt. As you say a clearance machine but he is a taller Mark McGough.

Something about Walker that screams X factor and has that something that makes you think hmmmm
Think he will be this years Lipinski, I can see a club taking him in the top 30 for sure.

The problem is for me on Walker is, he can run straight out of a stoppage and just bang it on the boot - his kick is 'loopy' so it just sits up in the air for a while. At least with some of the other inside mids, they can lower their eyes, but I've very rarely seen Walker do that in the 20 games i've seen him play in the last few years. His contested numbers aren't huge either, reckon he ends up a HFF.

I agree with what DPS said below, someone will take him top 30 - I'm quiet certain about that. X-Factor bang.

Bishop I feel you are drastically under rating Aiden Bonar. He was the best 16 yo in the country prior to his knee injuries. Despite the knee, he hasn't lost any explosiveness or agility.

A Ray's talent manager was recently quoted as saying more AFL scouts have asked about Bonar than any other player at the Ray's. That includes LDU.

He's been eased back into things playing forward however will be a beast mode mid at AFL level. He's a mutated version of Bont/Charlie Curnow. 190/90 bohemeth with a booming leg.

Internally at Haileybury he's rated one of the best kids to come through the school system.

The hype is yet to hit mainstream media/draft watchers. I'll be extremely surprised if the Pies skip him at 6....if they do, Saints better pounce at 7/8 or I'll lose my shit. He'll be the best of the draft.

Get on board the Bonar train...BT will.

Exposed form for mine suggests he is 3rd/4th round. Hasn't yet recaptured the agility/power you speak of (from what I've seen in 4-5 games). Not saying he won't, but it's not guaranteed. He's still a bit of a punt at the top end of the draft.

Rays' talent manager is hardly going to talk his player down and the level of enquiry is commensurate with him being available for all 18 clubs to select, unlike. LDU who realistically is gone by pick 5.

Best u16 player doesn't necessarily translate into top 10 u18 draftee, even when you get to play two full seasons with no injuries and 35-40 games (which unfortunately Aidan hasn't).

By all means drive the Bonar train, but understand it's probably a limited express which terminates before the end of the line.

You don't know how tempted ive been in putting him top 10, ive heard the same things from some people at Dandenong Stingrays. What he has been able to do so far from the limited time he has had is incredible and I can only imagine how well he could play with a full fitness base. Ive got him at 19 he could sink or swim from there but ill back in my gut feel and leave him in my top 20.
