Where do you rate Dawson/Crossely? Both have had quite good numbers throughout the year, but seem to be lower impact per posession players....

I wouldn't draft Dawson. Crossley has been an improver with his endurance - but for any player (especially a ruckman) who needs to cover the ground, to run a sub 10 beep test is appalling at the start of the year. Go back to May and I think the Suns were expecting him to be rookie-undrafted, now he may get a bid late in the piece (but I wouldn't expect it). Rookie chance for me.

Everytime I watch a Stephenson clip I can't help but see him missing targets and making poor choices.

Is this an accurate reflection or am I being harsh?

Not harsh at all - it's one of Stephenson's down fall. His field kicking is poor.

Who would you say has the higher ceiling as a game breaker/x-factor type player Bish, Stephenson or Bonar?

Have only seen write ups for Bonar, is there any player past or present you could compare him to? From my extensive reading and listening he sounds life a Nathan Fyfe type?? Am I way off there?

Hard to compare those two - because you're trying to compare an inside midfielder/general forward with an outside midfielder/general forward.

Bonar definitely has the bigger upside & ceiling of pretty much anyone in this draft pool.

I hate player comparisons - nobody like him and you can only go off limited games etc. Strong bodied animal in the midfield. So yes - a Fyfe type maybe. But just cause a player is 190cm doesn't mean they play like Fyfe/Bont !

If you're looking for a small forward Rayner isn't your man. Charlie Cameron comes in and plays at role. Higgins should be there at 12, but I reckon there's others the Lions would take at that pick.



I reckon he gets past Pick 10. For a bloke who has "focus" full on footy in 2017 - his testing results from the weekend were woeful. For a player who isn't fast, he went backwards in a fair few tests. A 3.16s 20m sprint isn't good for anyone, especially a small forward.

The only club in the top 10 that I think could consider him would be the Dogs. Nobody in the top 5 have shown interest to take him that early



It'll be one of LDU and Dow for Pick 1.

From your Pick 12 - I think Bonar/Clark/Brayshaw/Constable touted at top 10s - one may slide. But in reality I could see as things stand atm Brayshaw Freo Pick 5, Bonar/Clark/Constable two of them Saints picks, other player that is left of those 3 at Essendon Pick 11.

Lochie O'Brien is a 2nd rounder, might get closer to 30s than 20s.

Higgins has been carrying a back/groin problem for 6 weeks. Was clearly hampered in the PF 3 weeks ago, yet still took the field and kicked 3 goals.

I wouldn't read anything into his testing as plenty of others chose to sit it out.

Shows good character and resilience IMO.

The Lions have been building our midfield the last 2 seasons Keays Mathieson McCluggage Berry Witherden 1 or 2 mids could be in our sights but the massive need are Small forwards as I said we only really have Christensen and Taylor on our list I'm hoping we have a look at Higgins at 12 if he's available

We need midfielders before anything else. You don't have small forwards as your first draft priority when you are trying to rebuild a list. We need to get at least 2, and probably 4-5, midfielders from the next two drafts.

Higgins is a midfielder, so no problem at 12. I agree small forwards are the last of our priorities though

I reckon anywhere from 3rd round +. The problem I have is he's played a lot as an inside midfielder, he isn't going to play there at the next level. I know from speaking to a few clubs, they would've ideally got to see him play more as a pure small forward at times, rather than a 70% mid, 30% forward type of thing.

Don't think there's any issue with any of those results (with his not testing this week). His past testing stuff hasn't suggest it's a huge weakness.

I would have thought that would be about the last thing we'd ideally look to do, given that Steven and Ross generally play almost exclusively on the inside, as does Armitage, and to a lesser extent Stevens, and then we have Steele and Dunstan, who were both cemented into the middle by the end of the year and going well, and then we have other potential options there going forward in Gresham, Acres, and hopefully Freeman.

Bonar I get, as he has that extra height, the explosive speed and may have been in the mix for pick 1 had he not done his knee, but I'd be pretty shocked if we took both Constable and Clark with those two picks. Especially if Coffield was still on the board.

I'm not overly huge on him. Think he finds a home late-Rookie, his testing stuff was OK. But his work across HFF is pretty good, but there's a fair few others I'd have ahead of him. Not inside my top 50.

I think they take Bonar - the other pick I'm not sure, could a Stephenson/Cerra/Brayshaw type get there? Yes it's a chance. But at the same time some clubs have Hunter Clark in the top 10, others have him outside top 10 (including myself).

It's a juggling act when trying to pick who goes where - everything is based on mail that you hear.

I always love this time of year when a first time poster asks questions about a player.
You just assume it is either Handley himself or someone related.

Kicking is poor - but he can kick on both feet. You can't get away with it as a HBF - turnovers kill teams. But now he plays as an inside midfielder, it isn't as bad.

Any chance Bonar goes before St Kildas picks?

I couldn't see one of the teams above St Kilda going for Bonar. Saints have two picks - so it is some less form of a "risk"

Cheers, I guess the problem for us is that it's such an inside midfield leaning draft, when we're more probably wanting the more polished run and carry types.

Is Collingwood looking to be heavily into Coffield, and is your thinking that we take Bonar if we keep the picks more based on what sort of range you think he goes, or what you're hearing re who we're really into?

I'd be pretty excited if we got him and feel like it's probably the sort of punt we need to take to help our list take the next step.

Think Ameet or Elshaugh said recently that we're prioritising kicking skills this draft, so that makes me wonder if we'd take Clark there, with the poor KE.

Did he test at the combine and if so, did he do the 20m? If we think his kicking is OK he has a lot of other appealing attributes and I guess he has the versatility to play elsewhere to begin with, if he doesn't get a look in in the middle.

If Collingwood take Coffield, then one of Stephenson/Cerra/Brayshaw *has to* make it to St. Kilda, assuming Raynor, LDU and Dow are off the board,. i.e. it just assumes a top 6 order of LDU, Raynor, Dow, Stephenson, Cerra/Brayshaw, Coffield

Would love the saints to end with Bonar plus one of Cerra/Brayshaw

Haven't heard any whispers, but I haven't seen a lot of Rohan O'Brien around at games this year. WCE have watched a lot of Sandy Dragons games too.

Inside mids around 13: Hunter Clark, Aiden Bonar, Andrew Brayshaw -- To be fair though, they could all be off the board, just depending on how things fall.

Zac Bailey and Dylan Moore two that could be looked at - at Pick 30.

Jack Petruccelle may add some speed, his contested ball winning numbers suggest he can play as an inside mid.



Players are well trained, have managers - they know what to say. What players say publically and what they say around the traps to their mates can be completely different...

No player is going to be silly and not sound keen - especially when the first two clubs are interstates. Nevertheless - I would find it very hard to believe that Rayner is the No.1 pick to Brisbane.

Are you implying he definitely doesn't want to play in Queensland? I know they are trained but he did seem somewhat genuine in what he said. As others have said they usually say something ultra generic if they actually are mummy's boys who need to be breast fed through their AFL career back home in Vic. Id like him with pick two if he is genuine about being keen to play anywhere.
