Phantom Draft Bishop's 2017 Draft Thread

Are you implying he definitely doesn't want to play in Queensland? I know they are trained but he did seem somewhat genuine in what he said. As others have said they usually say something ultra generic if they actually are mummy's boys who need to be breast fed through their AFL career back home in Vic. Id like him with pick two if he is genuine about being keen to play anywhere.

I actually heard an interview where he said that he was in support of first round draftees getting 3 or 4 year contracts so that they stay with their original club.

As you said, they are clearly trained in what to say but everything I've heard from here makes it sound as though it won't be a problem.

Cheers, I guess the problem for us is that it's such an inside midfield leaning draft, when we're more probably wanting the more polished run and carry types.

Is Collingwood looking to be heavily into Coffield, and is your thinking that we take Bonar if we keep the picks more based on what sort of range you think he goes, or what you're hearing re who we're really into?

I'd be pretty excited if we got him and feel like it's probably the sort of punt we need to take to help our list take the next step.

Think Ameet or Elshaugh said recently that we're prioritising kicking skills this draft, so that makes me wonder if we'd take Clark there, with the poor KE.

Did he test at the combine and if so, did he do the 20m? If we think his kicking is OK he has a lot of other appealing attributes and I guess he has the versatility to play elsewhere to begin with, if he doesn't get a look in in the middle.

Not suggesting Saints will 100% take Clark, but think they'll look to bolster with an inside mid at one of those picks. More basing it off what I hear with Bonar - but I've said for a long time he could end up inside the top 10.

Haven't got Clark's testing stuff from this week yet.

For me, I can't see Brisbane taking him.

That's not just hearing things that I've been told that he wasn't too keen to go there during the season, but from a feel that I don't think the Lions have him No.1 on their board.

Higgins I wouldn't be taking there - Bonar I'd be happy to take him in the 8-15 range. Saints have two picks, so it's less of a "risk"
Cheers mate.

Are both future afl midfielders in your opinion?

Btw what is best case at 7/8, we need mids & more mids.

Lions have been pretty open about targeting pure midfielders so wouldn't surprise me if we don't have him as a number one target. Probably the sort of talent that will make us seriously consider him but I still see us taking LDU or Dow.

Not Higgins. He's a small forward. I think Bonar ends up a mid.

Best case would be for a Brayshaw/Coffield/Cerra type to slide through to their selection.
Higgins reminds of Jack Sinclair (highlights vids)

Cheers for the reply mate.

I always love this time of year when a first time poster asks questions about a player.
You just assume it is either Handley himself or someone related.

Related boys (his uncle) and have some good intel on what's going on, just curious to see how you saw it.

Followed this up - Clark only tested in the kicking & goalkicking tests on the opening day. Missed the rest of the testing with soreness.

Cheers. Were clubs expecting Bonar to test as low as 2.90sec? Does he really put that speed to advantage in games, like a Danger?

There's very little data on Bonar due to him basically missing two years, you can see when he plays that he has a burst of speed. So it wasn't a surprise for me to see him break 3 seconds, but a 2.90s is quick.

If you had to estimate the likelihood of each of LDU, Rayner and Dow being available at pick 3 in percentage terms, what would it be?

This is a very hard question -

BL - Dow, GC - LDU, CARL - Rayner is how I see it at the moment

but I could very easily see it

BL - LDU, GC - Rayner, CARL - ??

Think LDU probably the only "confirmed" if that's the right word, who I don't expect to get past Gold Coast's pick 2 as it stands at the moment.

Difficult comparison, but hypothetically if you had to pick one of drafting Brander or trading for Schache at a broadly similar price, who do you go for?

Cal Twomey reckons you would probably take Schache over any KPP in this draft.

Was referring to Collingwood re Pick 6.

If you were the Lions would you jump in and take him 1?
I'd be confident he'd:

1. Play every game
2. Buy into Fagan's culture change
3. Not get homesick.

Can't say the same about others as I don't know as much about them.

Out of curiosity what's your personal top 10/20 for the 2017 draft?
