Interesting..

Are WB being linked to him at all?

They were all over Boner for the last few years, but in the end they traded him out for 2 second rounders.

It is not a massive reach picking Naughton there.
In saying that, having a combination of LDU/Dow and a Brayshaw/Cerra.... That could set up your midfield for a long period of time.

Ldu brayshaw is the combo I would be hoping for if I was a freo supporter.

Both very strong and very safe prospects to make a midfield super competitive

Speaking of WAFL lads, anyone think Liam Ryan might get a gig and if so, what pick he might be rated around?
Ryan thinks he will go to Port. They have been into him for most of the year. Given the recent trade period Port look to be going all out for a flag so they may roll the dice with Ryan.

The Eagles were a little more interested recently but I doubt the Eagles will pick him with anything other than a late pick or rookie pick if Port don't pick him up. I still think it will be a stretch that he will be picked up (rookie maybe) as he has some issues and every club would know that.

Have zero knowledge on the draft hopefuls so have come to the experts... or as Ross would say "let the cobblers do the cobbling"

Bishop, could you give your opinion on who would be the best 2 and 5 for Freo and a link to a vid on each?

Don't want to cut into your mock draft, so maybe base on the premise of two best available (not drafted for positional needs)

Cheers and great job on the amount of effort you put into this throughout the year, it's appreciated by blokes like me who have little to no idea of the drafts.

Cheers for the info mate - i like a little intrigue, will they-won't they on my draft night.

So far we have rumours regarding two WA lads - Ryan and Banfield. Heard anything on the latter?

Not much on Banfield other than West Coast having a bit of interest, haven't heard that Port were into him.

As I said Ryan (and his old man) reckons he is going to Port, but Port are also aware that he has missed training sessions with not only Subi but with WA. Port was at that missed WA training session at Claremont and were not very impressed.

Interesting, cheers bud. Mind if i report back to the port board's draft thread?

Hi Bish,

Really keen to have a look at the athletic comparisons between the top-tier midfielders, particularly Rayner, Dow, Cerra, Brayshaw, Constable and Clark, who I'd assume Carlton would be considering with picks 3 & 10.

I'm aware they didn't test at the combine (Except for Brayshaw?), but if you would be able to compare their results in the speed, agility and endurance testing from earlier in the year that would be much appreciated.

Thanks mate.

Is Patrick Naish really a top 20 pick? The footage i saw , he turned it over a bit.I wouldnt be surprised if Richmond only want him for pick 53.

Adelaide might have a crack

I liked the look of Naish in the games I saw him play. Apparently Gary Buckenara has him at I think it was 7 on his list.

Dow at 15 and Brayshaw at 20!

Insane. Fortunately, he has found his niche as the GM at Frankston VFL

The better question might be how is Naish better than someone already in the system - such as Menadue? When I saw Naish play he was quick and kicked the ball well, but is very skinny and very outside. How likely is he - with 2-3 years in the system - to be better than Menadue or Corey Ellis?

Its interesting you say before we had pick 2 but i dont see that making a difference. Just lost Weller who was marked to play midfield so doesnt 2 just take his spot? No difference in what we needed before hand. Still have terrible depth through there.

Personally, i am very happy with Hamling, Pearce and Logue. People come back from broken legs (see Fyfe and Barlow) and Pearce was tracking brilliantly beforehand. Johnson is there as the back-up and there is always Cox who was taken as a defender anyway put played fwd due to necessity.

Of course if you have insider knowledge then thats something different

Coming off what I hear from those that make decisions...

Of course Pick 2 makes a difference, rather than having to decide between a mid/the best WA player that is in that range - you can grab both.

Logue will end up a wingman - but Freo supporters get very touchy over this. Pearce isn't an elite defender and never will be. Naughton will be capable of being better than Pearce without doubt.

Hi what do people tbink of Zac Bailey and where will he go in the draft .

2nd - 3rd rounder I think. Like his speed and inside work.

Interesting..

Are WB being linked to him at all?

A little - but all the scuttlebutt I hear is Bonar will be higher...

Interesting. That's not what I hear lately. But time will tell. The fact that WCE have all these 2nd rounders - means they can grab some of the WAFL players and hit the draft next year (stronger)

Depends who is Pick 1 (I say LDU) -- so that means that Cerra/Brayshaw/Dow are three mids available that I expect the Dockers to consider at 2/5. I can't see them picking Rayner/Stephenson - Naughton/Brander two talls maybe - but I have both rated a bit further back, but the feeling from some people is that they're both well in the mix. Hayes won't be considered.

Is Patrick Naish really a top 20 pick? The footage i saw , he turned it over a bit.I wouldnt be surprised if Richmond only want him for pick 53.

I've got him rated outside 20. The only club before Pick 20 I can see bidding on Naish is the WB -- But even then I don't expect it.

Dow at 15 and Brayshaw at 20!

Buckenara doesn't have a clue. The Herald Sun make him out like he's some god. Had his time in the spotlight - now he isn't involved in footy, he doesn't watch U18s football every day like he use to...

Good point , we have Menadue,Cory Ellis,Bolton,Stengle,Markov, Short,Miles and Lloyd who can't get a game.I think Broad ,McIntosh and Castagna are under pressure for a their spots. We need a mature age tall running back for Broad or depth and a mature tall forward/ruck.Im not confident about Griffith,Soldo and Hampson being any good.

Will post it Friday. Let's see how the next 48 hours go.
Hi Bishop

Don't mean to be demanding as I'm most grateful for your insights and your time responding to us punters, but did I miss your top 10 update?

Sorry, but 99% of Freo and I'd guess 70-80% of other footy followers would vehemently disagree with you on Alex Pearce.
Can only think you're thinking of Daniel Pearce ???
Alex shut down every single KPF he played on in his second year of footy after an interrupted first season.
Has incredible spatial awareness, hands like lightning and can kick well for a 200cm KPD.
His one on one work may have been suspect but he's just spent 12 months in the gym on his upper body and looks an absolute beast now.
You'll be eating those words in 2018

Been working the phones on the weekend - you can wait til tomorrow morning! Just finding out some details of things even this morning...

Again let's take the supporter bias out here. I doubt you can find 70-80% of footy followers to agree with you on that.

The fact that Freo are considering taking Brander or Naughton at 5 - suggests to me that they expect them to be better players than what they already have.

Agree to disagree on Pearce then.

As for Freo wanting a KPD with their first pick (when we had only pick 5) if that were the case why would they not have tried to downgrade their first pick in a deal that netted them a 2017 second rounder to satisfy GWS for Wilson, thus not losing our 2018 'super draft' 2nd rounder while still being able to grab Brander etc who aren't expected to go to 7/8/9 or later ??
To further weaken your case for a KPP draft approach, why would we have delisted Sam Collins who was a solid enough KPD back-up if our stocks were low ?
Our midfield depth is far more a concern than our KPD stocks.
FYI, you realise Brennan Cox was taken last year too yeh ?

To be fair, we delisted Sam Collins because he wasn't AFL quality. No point keeping someone just because they're tall and good WAFL depth.

And as for not downgrading #5, I wouldn't be surprised if Collingwood looked at Naughton as the top rated tall with the 6th pick. They need tall defenders more than anyone.

Alex Pearce is a very good defender though, if healthy. Bishop is wrong there.

Bishop you are strong on Freo taking a tall at 5. Bodes well for a quality mid sliding to St Kilda’s picks. I’m looking forward to your phantom.

Do you recall what I was saying about Bonar well before the combine & the u18 game on GF day? The hype is growing. I’m hoping the Saints get him at 7/8.
