It was a funny game - Hawthiorn's greatest winnign margin ever - but I actually wasn't that impressed with how well we played. We'd move the ball from the last line defence through the midfield to Buddy or Cyril up forward, but we'd fumble the ball, or grass about 2 pass passes along the way. The opposition was so bad, that our mistakes never mattered. Zero pressure
Sometimes when your opposition is crap, it drags your own standard down. That must have been one of those times.

I'm sorry, but how on earth could one team possibly kick 85 goals?

What the hell could Callington have been doing? Did they just stand there as the ball got cleared and goaled every time? That's over a goal per minute.
Look at my copy of 3AW football records, the Geelong West u/19 VFA team lost to Coburg u/19 by 675 points 110.27 (687) v 2.0 (12). Frankston u/19 also beat Geelong West 92.30 (582) to zero.

Have you ever seen a team kick 19 goals in the first half and then get done by 9 goals?

OP from 2009 was impressed with a suburban footy game when one of the teams didn't register a score after quarter time

How about Round 14, 1980 at Kardinia Park ?

Geelong........ 1.3.9 .... 5.6.30 ... 11.6.72 ... 13.6.84
North Melb.... 3.2.20 ... 4.3.27 ... 4.3.27 ..... 4.3.27

A good, old-fashioned round of wet-weather footy

Terry Bright kicked 4 goals and Lethal's brother Kelvin kicked 2 for the Cats

If it was wet and Kevin Sheehan played, he would have been close to leading the possession count.

Speaking of Kelvin Matthews. Round 8, 1981, Geelong v Carlton at KP.

Geelong gave up a big half time lead and lost by 5 points. As the final siren sounded, Kelvin had the ball in his hands, a pretty new one as someone had pinched the other balk shortly before. He was right on the boundary, high half forward / wing area, he slammed the ball onto his foot in disgust, it happened to coincide with a 12 year old me, going over the fence to run out on the ground. As I flew over, the ball slammed into my head and stunned me, I slumped in the gutter, as I shook my head and regained my senses, I realised there was an almost new Sherrin in the gutter next to me. I reached down and lay my hands on it just has some half drunk, middle aged Carlton supporter, leant down over the fence, snatched the ball out of my hands and took off into the departing crowd.

Flamin' mongrel.
