Bizzare Footy Scores

I'm thinking of the Freo vs I think Adelaide game a couple of years ago where Ryan Murphy kicked the only goal.

Also we got thumped by Geelong in the wet a few years ago and it took until Paul Johnson with almost goal of the year in the third quarter to get our first. Kicked maybe 3-5 in the end.

Not footy but I've seen 600 scored in suburban cricket on the ground next to me. Went over and had a squiz of the scorebook. Read something like:

130
0
150
80
130
140

The kid who opened and got a blob would have had a fun day...

Talking about odd results. My old man tells me of a game he played where he kicked the only goal for the match and they lost.

Was played pouring rain on an oval that was basically all mud. Kicked the first goal from the first centre clearance and no further goals were scored. Final score line was 0.13 (13) to 1.3 (9)

Round 6 1977 at Princes Park:

Hawthorn 25.41.191 defeated St Kilda 16.7.103

41 behinds from 66 scoring shots! That was some average kicking by the Hawks.

Pretty sure it's the league record number of scoring shots, but some 48 points short of the record score.

Have you ever seen a team kick 19 goals in the first half and then get done by 9 goals?

Sydney did it in 91.

Round: 6 Venue: M.C.G. Date: Thu, 25-Apr-1991

North Melbourne 5.7.37 13.12.90 19.18.132 27.26.188
Sydney 9.3.57 19.6.120 21.8.134 21.8.134

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/1991/121619910425.html

Peter German had 37 disposals and kicked 3 goals for 0 Brownlow votes.
How is this possible? Only Essendon and Collingwood have ever played on ANZAC day, it's traditional and the way it has always been!

Wasn't there a game played at the MCG when Nick Riewoldt kicked 9 goals against Carlton and Fevola was the only goal scorer for Cartlon with the Blues kicking only four goals. What year was that?

I played in a school grade under 14s comp when we finished on top (undefeated) yet lost the grand final in a bog when we kicked the only goals of the game.
2.1-13 defeated by 0.17-17.
I kicked one of the goals, our full forward kicked the rest of the score, the point was the first score of the day and was a SITTER from 10m directly infront (if my memory serves).

2002 Geelong won 8 or 9 in a row and needed one more out of nowhere to get finals. They ended up going down to Adelaide 15.3.93 to 12.18.90. Adelaide were deadly all day.

Few weird Northern Footy League scores over the last couple of years...

2011: Final score between Epping and Hurstbridge read something like 34.20 (224) to 21.5 (131)

2012: Reservoir 12.2 (74) defeated Mernda 7.20 (62)
Lower Plenty 9.9 (63) defeated Montmorency 5.22 (52)... Mont were 1.18 (24) during the third quarter
Fitzroy Stars 22.13 (145) defeated Diamond Creek 21.14 (140)
Mernda 19.18 (132) defeated Panton Hill 6.3 (39) - great day, as it was a Grand Final win, but Panton Hill kicked five of the first seven goals of the game. They only kicked one goal thereafter.

A senior game involving my local club a few years ago,

Them: 1.0 - 2.2 - 2.2 - 2.2 14
Us: 2.1 - 2.1 - 2.1 - 2.1 13

Neither team registered a score in the 2nd half. My team didn't register a score after quarter time.

Was one of the worst days I've ever seen. Ridiculously strong cross wind plus it hailed for most of the day.

the last two scores are peculiar. almost identical, one year after another, with the same team losing both times.

1972 Grand Final ... Pains me to put this up but i understand it set all sorts of records at the time and it fits quite nicely into the theme of this thread. Nice that Richmond did win the next 2 grandfinals ... but it must have hurt to score so high and fall short

This thread reminds me of the mob who used to train on our cricket oval, Boronia Park footy club. They played in the Yarra Valley league for a few years but were always short of players. One game they had thirteen blokes turn out for both reserves and seniors. They got done in the ressies, and then smashed in the firsts by Emerald - 68.32.440 to 3.1.19. The locals at Emerald gave them a standing ovation since they'd played both games non-stop - 13 blokes an interchange bench does not make!

Reminds me of a St Kilda - Essendon game in 1994:

St Kilda 8.1, 10.2, 15.2, 18.2 110
Essendon 5.3, 7.7, 10.9, 15.10 100

This game from 2000 was bizarre. We obliterated Melbourne in the second quarter (11.7 v 2.3) - particularly in the second half of the quarter, but were invisible for three quarters (3.12 v 12.15)... and still won!

North Melb 0.5, 11.12, 13.15, 14.19 103
Melbourne 3.5, 5.8, 10.12, 14.18 102

As a footnote both Peter Bell and Adem Yze kicked 0.4 which was highly uncharacteristic for both players.

Not so bizarre but I'll post it anyway.

This game in 1992 saw Hawthorn up at half time by 77 points. North then piled on 11 of the next 13 goals. Unfortunately John Longmire kicked a point where a goal would have brought us within 15 points mid-way through the last quarter... Hawthorn then steadied and kicked the last three deep in the game. I always wonder what could have been if Longmire had kicked straight...

Hawthorn 6.2, 15.8, 17.11, 20.13 133
North Melb 2.3, 3.3, 9.9, 14.12 96

Essendon v West Coast Eagles at Windy Hill, Round 15 1989.

Essendon 8.2 13.2 17.8 25.10 160
West Coast Eagles 0.1 1.2 1.7 1.12 18

Chris Lewis kicked the only goal for the Eagles.

I'm sorry, but how on earth could one team possibly kick 85 goals?

What the hell could Callington have been doing? Did they just stand there as the ball got cleared and goaled every time? That's over a goal per minute.

Culture.

Essendon 5.3, 7.7, 10.9, 15.10 100
Reminds me of that Crows/Bombers games a few years ago where everyone was kicking them from everywhere, Richard Douglas reverse banana, Ivan Maric left foot snap, etc. 18.6 to 21.4. I think it's the most accurate game in history?

Not really a bizarre score, more of a coincidence. The Bulldogs have only played in two grand finals.

1954. Footscray 15.12 (102) Melbourne 7.9 (51)
Melbourne score = 51. margin = 51

1961. Hawthorn 13.16 (94) Footscray 7.9 (51)
Footscray score = 51, same as Melbourne in 1954.

It's OK, I'll find my own way out.

Not football but basketball. I was playing in an under 18's game and we were leading 128 to 0 with about minute to go. So we could get the big % boost from it we decided to accidently  score for them off a missed shot. We ended up winning 136-2.
