Imagine if it was a goalfest.

It could've been something like 188-183 at 3/4 Time and 256 and 254 at Full Time.

Ah, the wishful thinking.
North simply shut down Williams, who was setting up goals at will in the first half, and the Swans became utterly helpless. They actually had fewer than thirty possessions between them in the last quarter! I recall the game a bit from the time, and comparing the bone-dry autumn with the wet winter makes me yearn for the variety seen in 1991: the Swans played one half with 210 points scored and six weeks later one game with a mere 70 points scored! It’s a pity no footage has survived

Along with the match at Princes Park between the same two teams on the same round two years later, it’s about the only time the 350 point aggregate barrier has ever looked like being threatened. The first 200-point aggregate was in 1909; the first 250-point aggregate in 1930 and the first 300-point aggregate in 1940.

Not football but basketball. I was playing in an under 18's game and we were leading 128 to 0 with about minute to go. So we could get the big % boost from it we decided to accidently  score for them off a missed shot. We ended up winning 136-2.

Unless this was the first game of the season, wouldn't it not make a difference whether they scored or not? As the percentage is devised from total points for/against during the season?

Have you ever seen a team kick 19 goals in the first half and then get done by 9 goals?

Sydney did it in 91.

Round: 6 Venue: M.C.G. Date: Thu, 25-Apr-1991

North Melbourne 5.7.37 13.12.90 19.18.132 27.26.188
Sydney 9.3.57 19.6.120 21.8.134 21.8.134

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/games/1991/121619910425.html

Peter German had 37 disposals and kicked 3 goals for 0 Brownlow votes.

To score 120pts in the 1st half, then lose by over 50pts, seems almost impossible in a logical world. Crazy game. Is that the best ever scoreline for a team trailing at 3/4 time?

A senior game involving my local club a few years ago,

Them: 1.0 - 2.2 - 2.2 - 2.2 14
Us: 2.1 - 2.1 - 2.1 - 2.1 13

Neither team registered a score in the 2nd half. My team didn't register a score after quarter time.

Was one of the worst days I've ever seen. Ridiculously strong cross wind plus it hailed for most of the day.
Should have moved the posts from wing to wing at half time. :thumbsu: Or toughen up it's only hail you bunch of princesses.

The score five minutes into the second quarter: Hawthorn 1-1-7, St Kilda 11-4-70.

Hawthorn scored 10-0-60 in the third term.

10 straight in the 3rd isn't a bad effort.

I played matchplay at golf that day, I jumped in the car with the intention of getting to Waverley to catch the second half. Heard the score and didn't bother.

Glad I didn't.

This was Under 15's I think, it was the last game of the year and it was us, one of the premiership contenders vs the bottom team.

Their ground was pile of slop, it was raining and at one point of the ground was a puddle that went half way up your shin.

They only had 15 or so players, so they needed some fill ins from Under 12's.

It was sad. With 3 or so minutes left on the clock it was 25.28.178 to 0.0.0.

Someone brought up the fact, if they don't score a single point, we get no percentage boost, some of us were pondering running the field and scoring a point for them.

If it hadn't been a shitheap of a ground, and it wasn't raining, we would've won by 250+ points.

Mind you this was Under 15's were the quarters were only 15 minutes or so.

A few WAFL ones which I've pointed out over on the stats board:

1) 1927 Preliminary Final - South Fremantle vs East Perth

SF: 2.3 - 4.6 - 9.8 - 12.9 (81)
EP: 3.3 - 6.4 - 8.9 - 9.12 (66)

If East Perth had scored one point less in the first quarter then it would have been mirrored scores throughout the whole match.

2) From Round 5, 1896 until Round 8, 1896 - West Perth went the following:

Round | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | T
\5|6.0|7.0|8.0|9.0|54
\6|0.0|1.0|2.0|2.2|14
\7|0.2|0.5|0.7|0.7|7
\8|0.1|0.5|0.5|0.5|5

In their next match, they failed to score a goal in the first quarter, before getting on board in the second.

All this means that West Perth had 7 successive quarters where they failed to kick a behind, followed by 10 successive quarters where they failed to kick a goal.

3) ...and this from a Reserves game in 1980 - Swan Districts v Perth

SD: 4.6 - 4.7 - 19.7 - 24.23 (167)
P: 4.2 - 5.5 - 7.7 - 12.7 (79)

Swans' quarter by quarter breakdown?

4.6 - 0.1 - 15.0 - 5.16

Round 6 1977 at Princes Park:

Hawthorn 25.41.191 defeated St Kilda 16.7.103

41 behinds from 66 scoring shots! That was some average kicking by the Hawks.

Pretty sure it's the league record number of scoring shots, but some 48 points short of the record score.
Most scoring shots by 6. Next most: 60 - Carlton 30.30-210 v Hawthorn 12.10-82 round 2 1969.
The have been 51 scores with 50-59 scoring shots but only the two of 60 or more.

In round 5 1995, Sydney trailed Adelaide by 17 points at 3/4 time. They scored 11.9-75 to 0.1-1 in the last quarter to win by 57 points - 20.24-144 v 12.15-87

How does one go about finding it??
I've actually seen footage of the game on one of those 'Decade that Delivered' videos. Here's the link (starting at 7min30 mark).

Capper was going nuts in the first half. There has to be someone out there who taped the telecast that night!!

That's not how percentage works.

To give you an example, say in week one you have a 100-100 draw. Your percentage is 100%. In week two, you have a 75-0 win. Overall scores for is 175 and against is 100. Your percentage is now 175%.

South Launceston were playing Clarence in 1994, South reigning wooden spooners and perennial strugglers who have never made the TFL finals, and Clarence reigning premiers. Trailing by 78 points in the third quarter, South came back hard and won the match...

I was there...and left just after half time...!

Surely Rd 18 2004 Adelaide v North would be one of the weirdest AFL games of the modern era in that the Crows didn't kick their first goal of the game until well into the third quarter.

That in itself is weird.

But the most bizarre thing is that goal which was kicked by Scott Welsh (former North player) actually put them in front.

How many goalless first half teams have gone on to win the game?

West coast did it against Hawthorn last year didn't they? Or did they not kick a goal in the second half but still won? One or the other.
