Very happy with the result today. Went down by about 2 goals but put the cue in the rack at 3 quarter time when we were up by a few.

Missing plenty of stars and playing plenty of kids, I struggled with some of the numbers and new hair dos.

Some notes;
Tony Notte played the whole game at CHB and was very good.
Matt Spencer played primarily at FF (with the odd run in the ruck) and played very well.
Buggered if I know how Wes Lammie gets a game, he's an absolute spaz.
Krakhour is going to be very very good this year.
Graham Jetta looks slimmer and could be a big improver.
Swooper had a shocker and had numerous tantys.

Thanks for the report underdog. Called for Notte to be trialled in the back, because I saw him do some great work there earlier.

Completely agree re:Lammie. In fact I think it's him people were getting confused with Naita, ie no footy nous, just an athlete. Very good runner, but with a football in hand.

Anyone venture to Mandurah today? Was meant to be headed there but that was changed on me at the 11th hour, spent the day in lovely Joondalup instead!;)

I see Notte in the best players, along with Swoop, but I am assuming Notte played in the back half?

Take it easy on lammie he isn't a bad ruckman

Didn't he leave with Lewis to go to Sydney? Surely he doesn't consider his chances of getting drafted as a mature age rookie:eek:?

When I knew Wes, good bloke I thought this bloke can make it to the AFL as a rookie as he is around 202cm tall and can run like a rover bit like cox so i would have thought AFL scouts would have been all over him (rookie wise anyway).

But it seems there are a few negitive responses on him, I know his decision making skills aren't the best, but for a ruckman thought his skills were par though.

I am assuming he just played the 1 really bad game, he isn't that bad as the average ruckman going around really.

I've watched him for many more than 1 game and a lot of those have been bad. Yes, he has the athletic tools but, in his defense, doesn't get played in the ruck much. More pinch hits in the ruck and plays forward. I'd like to see him given an extended run in the ruck, he could be the next mobile ruckman type.
Yes, he's a good bloke, but Underdog and I are commenting on football ability.:thumbsu:

With Spandy still around he is always going to be the number 2 ruckman. IMO Lammie isn't a ruckman/forward which all ruckman are expected to be these days in the modern game. He is more of a ruckman/backman which are unheard of these days, if such a thing ever existed. Spandy can go forward and is a proven goal kicker so he should probably spend more time up forward to give Lammie more time to develop in the ruck. I can remember him in addition in his junior days being a great defender as well as a ruckman and the couple of games I have seen him play in defense for swans he has done good, maybe because there isn't alot of skill involved keeping your opponent goaless.

If he isn't getting the time to develop as a ruckman for swans I think they should start blending him as a HB/CHB player and perhaps give another resy/colts player ago as the 2nd ruckman as the 1st ruckman must be doing 85% of the rucking all game if you say all he is, is a pinch hitting ruckman.

Actually he may get a fair chance this year because we won't be seeing Naita at Swans, in a playing capacity anyway! So I can't recall who our backup would be? We usually used Geappen, Notte or anyone else over 6'3" (except Hansen).

Just looking through the player auction photos...

There are 5 Garlett's at the club.

#59 is Cameron Boddy - he looked promising in the East Perth scratchy.

Robbo, Twomes and Swoop dipped into their own pockets to sponsor Garth and Davo.

Spencer spent time in the ruck in the Royals scratchy. That's pretty damning when he was our FF and Lammie and Spaanders played.

On that note - Spencer looks good at FF. Plays the corridor well.

What about Notte? Where is he going to play? Do you think he can play as a Flanker in the AFL for WCE?

If he has yet another under par season I can't see him being retained on the senior list for WCE but still picked up as a rookie

Early indications suggest CHB. The past 2 games he has played there and been named in the best players.

It really suits him and there's probably less pressure on that spot for West Coast and a reasonable opening since McKenzie is the future FB, Brown a utility, Spangher a third tall and Schofield battling for the CHB position.

I can.

Consider that Aaron Black was drafted at the last draft and is almost identical in age.

I very much doubt they'd consider dumping him should he not perform this year.

What da ya mean, yet another, Pacie? His first season he was 5th in the Swan Medal as a 17/18 yo. Last year did his PCL round 4-6 which kept him out 6 weeks. I don't see sub par in those seasons.

I'll tell you after Saturday if I'm worried or not pacie (and Ghoss if you're reading this). I'll make sure I have my unbiased cap on too, promise!:thumbsu:

I think I saw Boddy play a year or 2 ago Underdog, I remember the name, so something must have stuck in my mind about him too.

20th Anniversary of the '90 Premiership Team this year too, so it's about time we went 1 better!:footy:

Where is Riggio? Not in the line up

And is that Clint Garlett lined up at Rv? What has happened to Glen?

I presume so, as starting Rv he has impressed, should have been rookied last year by someone, but we'll take it.

Good to see the dutch express (Van Groningen) named as an emergency for the first game, he'll obviously get his chances this year.:thumbsu:

What attributes does that dutch bloke have? We all know Magumbwa has the best leap in the comp and can take an awesome mark, can this dutch bloke do something first class as well?

Some updates listening to Dawse on ABC...

Riggio shin complaint should be back on the track this or next week
Same with Tom Roach with ankle injury - should be ready for round 3.

Dawson doesn't expect to see Naita this year (no surprises there).

He mentions Clint Garlett as the kid to look out for.

Dawson really rates Davis and is very happy he stayed.
