It was tough for you guys this year and the off field stuff about the Basso Oval redevelopment has added to it. During the Community Cup yesterday they were having their end of season bash upstairs in fancy dress. Someone managed to do a streak during the first quarter trying to chase the ball.

2017 has started like 2016 finished for us unfortunately with Clancee Pearce injuring his knee at training and thus requiring a reco. :'(
All the best in your recovery Clancee.

Bugger that is a huge blow for SD with Clancee doing his knee....definitely a blow for the comp as a whole too....need players of his ilk running around in the WAFL to entertain the fans. also considering Crowley's age, Ellis's injury history, Yarren's recent mental health issues, Gault's inability to kick goals even at the VFL level...SD recruiting might not be as productive as it looks on paper....though definitely if all on song SD will be pushing for a top 5 berth...though Clancee is definitely a huge loss.

Ah, the first game of the season, with all supporters from all clubs filled with optimism for the season. Bring it on.

Don't worry Spearhead, I don't reckon we'll go as badly as last year. :)

Can't wait to see how our new look midfield runs together - wet weather suits a list of ex-AFL players!

Glad that we waited until the last moment to clear Ansey, any idea which side he is in today?
Named in reserves Noobz0r. My biggest disappointment is that muppet Graham won't be on the field for them.....

as disappointing as that is, the way that he left them should be of some solace :)

How did he leave, Noobz0r ? Sorry not up with any of the goings on over summer.....

Great start to the season on field.
Off field things a bit different - first 2 games the "rose garden" gates has had no budgets or $5 notes well before bounce down. FFS not hard to work out it cost $15 to get in - you're going to need a few $5 for change.
First game can bar on hill ran out of beer & RTD - only had some girly vodka drink by end of game.
Now we're firing expect bigger crowds so hopefully they get their act together if they want people to keep coming in the gate.

Was pretty happy with that win Spearhead, mainly because if anyone deserves it for a milestone game, Amesy does. Congrats Amesy.
East Freo made us work hard and their tackle pressure made ours go up and didn't remind me of recent Sharks sides, well done to them.
Thought Notte held them at bay for the first half, thought he was excellent. Gault and Nuich in the ruck had their work cut out for them against a 204 cm ruckman and ground him down. Jesse Turner was also outstanding, as was Rogers for the second half.
My special mention goes to the bloke I like to lambast the most, but was outstanding yesterday, Freddie Clutterbuck. Kudos to him.
Great team effort and everyone did their bit when required. Well done and let's keep it going.

Nearly a week after the game and I am almost over the fact we threw away yet another match vs WP.
FFS as if the 2015 Anzac Day game wasnt bad enough losing the impossible we did it again with butchered chances in the last few minutes.
We will never become a top echelon side until we discover that killer edge instinct in my books something we havent had for over 30 years (bar 2010).
It doesnt get any easier this week with the perennial top side Claremont at Basso.

Great to see so many past players at the footy yesterday and many heroes of mine from the glory days at Basso against our old GF foes Claremont and wonderful that the current boys hung on to win against a quality side.
Next week we take on the perennial top of the ladder Subi who are set for yet another GF appearance this September, hopefully we can be competitive against them.

Seemed like a very small crowd for a glorious weather day.
It was fun trying to work out who was who from the adjoining can bar!
I believe a certain Sandover Medallist may have been missing due to him getting married !
Troubles getting in the ground again - no change & took 15 minutes for them to process probably 20 people in front of me in the queue. Wouldn't like to see what it would be like if 4,000 turned up

Was well over 2000 at the game which nearly doubled the next best WAFL crowd on the same day and was more than double the crowd of the Eagles vs Fremantle Reserves game. Claremont have little to no supporters unfortunately.

Very disappointing performance yesterday.
From the first bounce we didnt come to play with the required intensity, effort and skill required to beat Subi who have been dominate for the best part of 32 years for a reason or many!

I have had trouble getting my thoughts together Spearhead. It was bitterly disappointing to not play with any aggression or passion with what was at stake.
My thoughts are very harsh, but here they are.
Slater should never play another game of league for us, ever again. Riggio is not No 1 banana material, very good servant and a great 2nd or 3rd, but not capable of a no 1. We need to find someone who is. Banfield doesn't like the contest, but neither did half the team yesterday. Rogers needs to be more consistent and not Hulk it up for 5 mins here and there, needs to play with intent for the whole game. He's the one who can but for the most part doesn't. You know he frustrates me. :) Noble was pretty invisible, along with Tarryce, who is young, like Warwick and Ethan Macguire, so I will forgive them for that reason.
Our disposal and decision making, especially in that period where we had about 10 repeat entries I50 in the second, was diabolical.
We don't have enough big bodies or enough pace in the middle (maybe play Blight in there more) to match it with the really big boys. Mentally weak as a group, they don't seem to have the desire to take the bit between the teeth and go, right, here we go.
I have pages more but I will stop now, sorry.

We beg to differ on a couple of the players swannies but not on what was a very dismal effort for 3 qtrs on Saturday considering a piss poor performance the week before and what was at stake on the weekend with a double bye over the next 2 weeks.
Unless an understanding of if we do not come prepared for 22 players to give 100% every game, every minute as we are very average without intensity and effort then this will be yet another waste of a season like all bar 1 or 2 in the last 30 years!

A much needed 4 points yesterday, got off to a good start and kept the same margin for pretty much the rest of the game. We had a chance to have a big win but didnt press on when the opportunity presented itself, we still have work to do if we want to play finals footy and to challenge the big boys in Subiaco, SF, Peel, EP & WP.

You cant say I didnt warn you swannies to turn around at the gate before shelling out your hard earned.
Absolute rubbish dished up by the Colts, Reserves & for a half by the League sides.
