Not the result we were after losing the first game at home but at least some positives to take out of the game and day.
Kicking 18 goals was very good to see (giving up 20 probably no so good), playing a more direct fast moving free flowing style.
It was close to the best game of WAFL footy I have seen in quite a few years and mark my words Claremont will be one of the teams to beat yet again with so many runners through the middle.
Losing Costigan to a nasty shoulder injury in the opening minutes was always going to hurt on such a hot day having to play virtually the whole game one down.
Was good to see both the Colts & Reserves have good wins against the perennial Grand Finallists in both those grades- Claremont.

I thought you guys did quite well, not a lot in it at the end of the day. I think your squad has a lot of promise. Arguably the prettiest ground in the WAFL too.

A pretty comprehensive win on Saturday night at Eagle Lathlain Park.
I thought our midfield lead by Fisher, Anderson, Turner, Cipro & Gault really got on top of Perth whilst our backline were rock solid after allowing 20 past them last week (not all their fault) whilst our forwards hit the scoreboard on most occasions but maybe left a few goals still out there, but great to see we are getting around the 100 point mark per match again after far too many seasons of barely hitting 50 a match.
Great win to the Colts whilst the Ressies had their chances but couldnt capitilise on them to lose by a couple of goals.

On a side (sour) note what on earth is going on (or lack there of) at Lathlain (Eagle) Park?
I keep hearing how this ground is top notch now and yet for the 3rd year in a row since the Eagles have taken over the joint there was no scoreboard, no time clock & no wind sock....bloody disgraceful and about time the WAFC got on to this as it is totally unacceptable to not have these available to loyal, traditional WAFL supporters and footy fans alike!

Did what we had to against the Weagles Weserves but nothing to be shouting from the rooftops about especially allowing them to kick the last 5 goals of the game in junk time.
It is that sort of lack of foot on the throat killer instinct that has cost us games in years previous and must be eradicated asap by the team and coaching staff.

Was a poor crowd given the great weather and no WC or Freo game in competition.
Great "child minding" via the kids play zone.
You can also sign up your kids for a free junior membership which gives them a free sausage sizzle and drink plus a few other goodies - lets get the next generation of supporters blooded.
Big test this week so get on down & support the boys (and girls).

Where were all these supposed 100,000 WCE members MTC?
I remember Trevor Nisbett telling everyone WCE fans would come in their droves to WAFL games when they got their own side in the WAFL!
They would not have had 100 fans there at Basso on Saturday let alone 1000 or 10k and their "League side" had played the night before too so no clash at all to use as an excuse for not turning up.
Maybe there are a lot of cats & dogs that make up WCE member numbers?

Good to get the 4 points at our bogy ground (well one of them anyway) on the weekend.
After a great 1st qtr we went to sleep for the next 70 minutes or so as EP upped their intensity and pressure whilst we coughed the ball up to them consistently.
At least after being headed early in the last qtr we fought back to win which hasnt happened too often in the last 6 or so years.
This week we are off to Jondalup for another tough battle against perennial top 4 team WP. Hopefully we come with the right attitude for a full 4 qtrs up there otherwise we will get a caning.

Another loss to a Top 4 side this time Subi after capitulating in the last qtr vs WP in our last game.
It is becoming evident we really finish games poorly and after hitting the front 5 minutes into the last qtr the next 25 minutes were spent predominately in Subi's forward half.
We had a crack but we are still yet to beat a decent side (CL, SU, SF or WP) for a long time in fact I heard we have only beaten those sides twice in our last 40 odd games against them which is utterly pathetic.
Good wins to the Colts & Reserves on what was yet another disappointing day for Swans in the League.

Back in the winners circle this week knocking off EF after dropping our last 2 against WP & SU.
Good to win in all 3 grades as well and the girls kept their unbeaten streak going (13) so a good weekend for the Black & Whites vs EF at Basso.
This week we travel down to Mandurah to take on Peelmantle who will no doubt be topped up with a plethora of Freo Docker blokes.

It was good to get away from Mandurah with the 4 points (in all 3 grades too) in a game we didnt play great in.
Peelmantle had a pretty good side in with 10 Dockers and a handful of other ex AFL and or WA State players and played pretty well, we were lucky they didnt kick straight otherwise the result may have been reversed but we have been on the end of that previously so happy to take the points.
Next week we take on WP at Basso who love playing us as it has been a regular tick in their win column for far too long now as we invariably fold up to them in the second half!

And the regular tick in the win column continued for WP vs SD.
It really has become a deadset joke now how ordinary SD are against the well established WAFL Top 4 of the last decade or so- SU, CL, SF & WP.
I read somewhere in the last 5 seasons our win/loss record against those 4 sides is 1 win & 24 losses...absolutely pathetic.
You would think it was WP who had something to prove on Saturday how they came out and dominated the contest from go to whoa.
SD are pretenders and nothing else, once again disappointing a decent crowd at Basso against a genuine team.
Expect a massive loss this week against a fired up Lions who lost to WCE's Reserves on the weekend!

Was lucky the crowd was well down on the 5,000 talked about during the week. Half an hour before bouncedown and no budgets available. 10 minutes into first quarter & can bar has run out of Great Northern (was later restocked).
No WA AFL based sides playing and a very late effort by the WAFC to promote the round.
Can't see why Swans don't engage with the schools and give away free kids tickets (no cost as kids are free anyhow) but that means Mum & Dad have to take little Jimmy.

Matt the WAFC would be responsible for Football Budget numbers at the venues, I believe they actually produce and print them in house too these days.
Also as a WAFL weekly regular Swans have by far the most kids attend games at Basso, so we cant pin that on them either.
But the on field stuff falls well & truly at the blame of the club or more directly the football department!

Well who would have envisaged that?
Swans beating Subiaco on their own dung heap.
And with the umpires doing their level best to get Subi home, sheesh we really need some outspoken leaders on the ground like other clubs have who dictate to the umpires and they fall into giving them free kicks every week eg- Black, Nelson, Mitchell, Bolton, Schloithe, Kitchin, Delahunty etc....we are far too nice out on the field in comparison!
Good to see big Germs make his League debut and gives us another big body out on the ground.
The Colts had a good win whilst the Ressies were unlucky.
Another big test again this week with the top of the table Claremont at their home ground Claremont Oval who are coming off a loss to WP.

Good to get the win against an Eagles Reserves team with 14 afl listed players in it for the second time this season (12 afl listed the first clash) although the way that mobs afl team is going they should have a few more "high profile" types playing in the WAFL by seasons end.
The club did a great job with the Naidoc Round pre game ceremony whilst it was a nice touch to hear the didgeridoo sounds after every Swans goal.
Fittingly some of our best players on the day were our Indigenous leaders in Warrick Wilson, Jiah Reidy & Lewis Jetta.
This week we take on another top 3 side in SF at home which will be another huge test to see where we are really at in the WAFL.

And another huge test it was and we failed dismally again against one of the top sides.
SF pretty much did as they pleased right from the start as we seemed totally disinterested or incapable of manning up on the likes of Schloithe, Suban, Dragovich etc allowing Shaw, Schlensog & Miller to have a birthday up forward.
The Reserves were also insipid which probably set the tone of the day for our Senior squad.
Next week we have Perth at home who will be desperate to keep their finals hopes alive.

Good to get the 4 points (in all 3 grades) against Perth on the weekend.
We started well but like pretty much every game had our flat patches and some easy misses on goal that left the door open for the opposition who hovered around the 2-3 goal margin for most of the game but never really got closer.
Would love to see us play 4 qtrs before we can genuinely claim we could match the well established top 4 of SU, WP, CL & SF.
Big Germs was good in the ruck in the absence of Gault out injured and was good to have Anderson back who was sorely missed against SF last week.
This week we take on EF at EF Oval which will be another stern test.

Came up short again despite having 17 more Inside 50s and more scoring shots.
EF just wanted it more in the end.
I really wonder whether I will ever again see a SD side play with that 4 qtr determination, killer instinct, give the opposition nothing type that I grew up with in the 1980s.
Unfortunately no matter what is at stake SD teams of recent times just want to give the opposition every possible chance to beat us and many, many, many take that opportunity.
This week it is Peel back at Basso and we wait with bated breath what attitude that SD side will come out with!?

It wasnt pretty for 3 qtrs before we played a far more long and direct brand in the last qtr and ran away with the win in the end.
Tony's hanger in the last qtr worth the price of admission alone.
The Colts & Reserves also had good wins to make it a win for all 3 grades on the day.

This week we face the very inform EP at home, hopefully we are up for the challenge that they always pose to us this week, with the 60 year reunion of the 1961 Premiership team also on that day at Basso!

Cracking day of footy on Saturday at Bassendean Oval with the 60 year anniversary of our 1961 Premiership team.
The retro 60s feel with the old 1961 jumpers, the 1960s music playing, the dressing up in 60s gear of many of the fans all made for a great atmosphere on the day with a good crowd in attendance and the footy on the park was pretty good as well.
Kicking the first 6 goals of the game got the players and crowd up and about before the inevitable EP fightback came during the next 2 and a bit qtrs before Swans steadied and kicked away in the end to win by 41 points to secure a spot in the finals with 2 games to come, both against fellow finals teams in SF & CL away.
