An aggressive recruiting campaign has put the Lions right back into top four calculations, says Simon Black. BEN CASANELIA caught up with the Lions Brownlow Medallist.
BC: The Brisbane Lions must be a nice club to be around at the moment?
SB: Yeah, it’s been a good start to the year so the vibe is pretty positive.
BC: Particularly good given the recruiting drive the side went on in the off-season.
SB: It is. The place is in the best shape it’s been for a number of years and that’s exciting. A lot of our younger guys have a few games to their name and to complement that with the influx of new guys, the side is far better placed than it was two or three years ago.
BC: Were you surprised at the number of experienced players you acquired in the off-season?

BC: Is Fev a different bloke to the one you thought he might be?

SB: I’d actually met him a couple of times around the traps, so I sort of knew what he was like. He’s certainly a bit of a character, good fun, and the one thing he does do is use his mobile phone more than anyone I’ve met in my life.
