They're a tracked (i.e. off road) amphibious vehicle. You've gotta change the tracks on them constantly (and that cant be cheap, and it's labour intensive), they can tend to chew up roads, and they go around 50kph top speed. They also chew through diesel at a decent rate.
I think I read something about some departments getting them cheap and then mothballing them once they became too expensive to maintain.

Here is WAPOL TRG's Bearcat in operation in Perth.

Oh how ridiculous. I saw the thumbnail which popped up for the vid before it loaded. I thought it was some random South American police vehicle. Can't believe that's on our streets.

This, in addition to those drones deployed at the height of CovidCraziness to scare away people, just shows the Police have too much money.

It makes zero sense.

They're literally only designed for protection from mortar fragments and small arms for the dudes in the back (and the small arms protection is a little iffy with higher powered rifle rounds at close range).

They're old tech. Pre Vietnam war era. The cost of running a fleet of them would not be justified for what possible practical uses they might have.

Something like a Bear-cat or similar:

Makes a sh*t load more sense.

They can actually go on freeways at 120 kph+. Its what our State and Federal Police use.

there is also a double kicker

peeps need to be trained to use all this ex military s**t

usa police forces have seen training in negotiation, incident management, and community engagement diverted to how to drive this s**t and handle the arms they are getting

Makes zombie movies so unrealistic. They are all running around trying to find supplies when there are 3 billion rounds of ammunition sold in the US every year.
Don't be absurd. 95% of those bullets would be shot within the first ten minutes of a zombie apocalypse in America, mostly at other people not zombified.

Victorian police have just taken delivery of 300 semi-automatic rifles. They are monitoring people's social media pages and arresting people for non-compliant statements. They have the right to enter people's homes without a warrant. They have set up cameras in public parks. They are using drones to spy on people.

The MSM don't seem to be questioning any of this.

Well why would they bother questioning random posts on football forums, what would be the point?

The M113.

Used to drive (and command) them in the Army. 50mm of aluminium between you and the enemy.

I have no idea why the Cops would need one. Literally zero.

Heh. Is this the most famous M113 in Australia?

ADDITIONAL - The Yanks get it wrong and call it the 'Sydney tank rampage', but this is the Perth incident

“ The state of disaster declaration will empower the police minister, Lisa Neville, to appoint police as authorised officers. This means when doing spot checks on people’s homes, if the residents did not give permission for them to enter, police will be authorised to enter without a warrant.”

Only applies to people who have been ordered to quarantine.
s.10 LEPRA gives police power to enter without a warrant to arrest or detain someone.
If you're not complying with a quarantine order they can arrest or detain you.

And what if you aren't quarantined and refuse to open the door like quite a few have and have your front door smashed in what about them?

Or making a comment on Facebook but not quarantined what about them?

You think it's only being used for that surely not..

Black americans biggest threat to their own lives is actually themselves. Change will hopefully occur when they take responsibility for their own actions.

A whole lotta things need to change in that nation. I mean, let's look at 'hood life'. Gang culture is deadly for sure, but why are gangs prevalent? Why have these adaptive 'street family' structures grown up? What is absent? What is the void that needs to be filled by gang activities? And what can be done to actively disrupt the endless cycle of 'misdemeanor - felony - jail - release - life with no job prospects because of criminal record - felony - jail - release' that keeps the for-profit prison systems ticking over?

The United States is proudly the land of 'F*ck you - I've got mine' individualism but these problems need a COLLECTIVE cure. That doesn't often sit well with the U.S style of libertarian thought but a few home truths are going to have to be realised before that country can get its s**t together.

Collective problems need collective cures. Heal the neighbourhoods.

EDIT: typos.

The right of anyone to enter a property, particular police, is very strictly governed both by common law and statute.
Courts and judges give a very short rein to police to enter a property without a warrant.
There is nothing in the State of Emergency or Health Act that makes it easier for police to enter a property without a warrant other than the person being subject to a health order.
It is an offence to not be quarantining where you said you would be quarantining.
If you're quarantining and refuse to open the door the police can use reasonable force.

The stupid lady that got arrested for inciting a protest...police had a warrant.

What assumptions do you make regarding their alleged failure as a group to do so?

Why are they knocking on your door in the first place, and why would you refuse to open it?

How is it your own fault if you are in your own home and hit by a stray bullet?

So much wrong with the attitude that produces this type of opinion.

Police shot while sitting in their car in the Democrat City Of Angels.

And of course, the 'peaceful protesters' made it all about themselves.

"To the protesters blocking the entrance & exit of the HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM yelling 'We hope they die' referring to 2 LA Sheriff's ambushed today in #compton: DO NOT BLOCK EMERGENCY ENTRIES & EXITS TO THE HOSPITAL," the sheriff's department tweeted.

Stay classy BLM :thumbsu:

Absolutely sick and depraved individuals.

Pretty despicable.

But it's the same sort of stuff cops say about black people in their "locker room banter". When stuff like that leaks they claim "stress" and "just dark humour" and the like.

Breonna Taylor?

Nah, no knock, just barge in. Mistaken identity. Person they were after didn't live there and was not known to them, and had been arrested somewhere else in the city a few hours earlier.

They didn't identify themselves. Boyfriend hears a break in and tries to defend his property. Innocent woman gets killed by indiscriminate fire.

Cops were wrong all day long in this one.
This factually incorrect.

Brionna Taylor and Jamarcus Walker, one of the drug dealers under police surveillance, had dated 2 years prior to her shooting and had maintained a friendship (according to the Taylor family's attorney.)

An article in the New York Times mentioned Brionna's "history with 30-year-old Jamarcus Glover, an on-again off-again boyfriend who had spent years in prison, was hard to escape, even after she cut ties with him a month before the raid.

Brionna's new boyfriend later explained that he fired his gun at police officers when they rammed the door of the apartment "because he feared it was her ex-boyfriend forcing his way in."

There was no "mistaken identity" by police. They were not there to arrest Jamarcus Walker. Like you said, he was already in custody. The police knew Brionna Taylor lived at that apartment. The cops had previously watched Walker collecting packages which had been delivered to her address. They obtained a no-knock search warrant for her apartment because they had good reason to believe Walker used her place to stash his gear.

It's been said she wasn't involved in any criminal activity. But the police weren't to know that. They were there to search her place.

Although police had obtained a no-knock search warrant, their orders were changed to "knock and announce". Police claim they did announce themselves before forcing the front door. Brionna's new boyfriend says he didn't hear them, nor did any of the neighbours apart from one who claims he did hear them announce "Police!"

So the cops burst in... Brionna's fella shot at them, wounding one of the officers in the thigh... Police returned fire and killed Brionna who was standing the hallway.

The police raid was a bungled operation because somebody died needlessly. But it's easy to say that in hindsight. The simple fact is police did everything by the book leading up to the event. Not sure whether their orders were carried out to the letter. Conflicting stories about that. (Although they did have a no-knock warrant.) Then they were shot at and an officer was wounded.

I don't think it's right to blame police 100% for what occurred. It was a confluence of unfortunate circumstances which led to her death... She was unfortunate to have a prior relationship with a drug dealer... unfortunate that he used her address for deliveries.... unfortunate that he was on the police's radar and they watched him take deliveries of packages at her place... unfortunate that police decided to raid her apartment and smash their way in... unfortunate that her boyfriend decided to open fire... unfortunate that she followed her boyfriend out into the hallway and didn't stay back in her bedroom... unfortunate, of course, that police returned fire and shot her 5 times.

(Also unfortunate to live in a country where there are 393 million guns; where there are more gun-related homicides than any other country on earth; where police are trained to behave like a militia and use their own firearms ruthlessly to counter any threat, whether real or perceived.)

You can't ignore any of those variables. You can't just focus on one to exclusion of all others. They all led to her death.
