You need to be elite to get in this team....Edwards merely skirts the edges of Elite....A very good player at his peak currently, in a highly disciplined side.

And don't bring up his AA last year....That was as much a liberal pc charity joke, as Houli's was this year.

I mean...Tommy Hawkins even got one.....Strike me down.
Edwards was top 5 in the AFL coaches votes (?) around 2016 (??) before he broke his leg IIRC

and has been getting better ever since

the most underrated bloke going around and very elite

every bit as elite as Betts and Ryder who are in your 18

He's not even in the same stratosphere as Betts ffs....And Ryder gets A gig merely owing to the lack of any really elite & stand-out Key position defenders.

Edwards isn't even going close to replacing any of those 4 players on the bench for starters.

That's nice....He might even make it 2 in some 3 weeks time.

Darryl White has 3 of em & he aint in the side either.

Perhaps if he wins the Normie, then he'll be starting to make a stronger case for inclusion....A few more bridges to cross as yet.

Betts has played for 15 seasons, played some 313 games & kicked 600 goals....And all as a forward-pocket specialist.

That's more than Milne, Brad Johnson & Peter Daicos have kicked.....The only 2 small forwards ahead of him, are Matthews & Bartlett.....And they're both in the team of the Century proper.

I wonder if any of Zac Williams or Jeremy finlayson could make this team by the end of their careers.

The argument could be made for Lewis Jetta, Liam Ryan and Tim Kelly in the future as we

Walters at Fremantle & Cameron at Brisbane are 2 that certainly could, should they continue to maintain their form over a stretch of time....I'd like to think that Wingard could also press his claims for inclusion in the next 4-5 years.

I feel like we’re in a golden age of indigenous talent that is both widespread and elite

The indigenous boys certainly add another layer of excitement & magic to the game, without doubt.

Cyril is easily the most sublimely gifted footballer I've ever seen play in my clubs guernsey....And that includes the likes of Buckenra, Platten & Jarman.

Such a shame he never had the endurance for the midfield, but his abundance of fast-twitch muscle fibres, meant that the forward role suited his body & his style of play best....He could cut a side to ribbons with as little as 10 disposals a match, as everyone saw on Grand Final day 2015....And seldom did he ever waste one.

And Boy; Did he ever make those salty Cats fans eat their words on that day....Glory be.

Love Buckley's concluding comments at the end of this highlights reel....."It's pretty hard to expect the Bombers players to know where's he's going, when I don't reckon even he knows where he's going to go, as he dances all over the place."....Just pure instinctual spatial awareness, combined with cat-like agility & reflexes.

Ryder gets A gig merely owing to the lack of any really elite & stand-out Key position defenders.
Not sure if Paddy Ryders uncle got a mention earlier, Billy Dempsey was a natural CHB even though he played most of his career on ball:
As a young ruckman, Bill Dempsey left Darwin for a career with West Perth where he played during the 1960’s and 70’s ..... a member of premiership teams in 1969, 1971 and 1975 at West Perth ... & .. three Buffalo premierships in 1958/59, 1959/60, 1967/68, represented Western Australia 14 times.
Dempsey was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in June 1976, for services to sport, inducted into the Northern Territory Government Hall of Champions in 1997......
.. in 2000 he was named in a back pocket in West Perth's Team of the Century. An inaugural inductee of the West Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2004, Dempsey was named as a back pocket in the AFL Indigenous Team of the Century in 2005 and in 2010 he was inducted as a Legend into the AFL Northern Territory Hall of Fame.

Memory suggests Footisgray chased Billys signature but no interest.

Not bad....You've essentially mixed & matched my side & replaced Malarkey with May & Cyril With Syd Jackson....I'd suggest that Michael Johnson from Fremantle would be well ahead of May....And in no known universe is Syd ahead of Shaun Burgoyne or Cyril Rioli….Don't get me wrong, I love Syd, as I wore his number 5 on my back as a tyke....But he's not in Sizzle or Silks company or league.
