this kid is good....but geeez they crucified him last nite...so many times on his own waving his arms and they just didnt see him...played well i thought

He sure did play well, he played better then I expected.

Showed great poise, balance, skills are pretty good and that goal he kicked stamped "class" all over him. In that thick pack, lots of traffic, to just weave his way through, take them all on, and create space to snap the goal was as good as it gets. If it was Akermanis who kicked that, they would have showed many more highlights.

Fingers crossed, he, Russell, Kennedy and whoever else can play most of the games for the rest of the season.

yer macca didnt seem to have any1 to play on besides grant but he and a few others got ripped apart by grant. though when carrozzo was taken of grant he played well but evey time he marked the ball he looked backwards. any1 else see it?

teague is the same has no1 to play on. if he plays on a smaller forward his to slow and he play on a bigger forward he to short and pushed out easily.

Blackweel seems to be playing better by the game. Good to see the youngsters starting to take some of the load off the experienced players.

Looked fantastic for a 3rd gamer, great poise - his goal was excellent.

Only problem for me is his potential upside is just a better version of Bentick; a small, inside midfielder and good tackler. I can't see both playing together in the same team for long, especially not with Murphy in the mid-field as well, just not enough size there. I guess that makes Bentick trade bait at some point in the future, but I like that guy so it'd be sad to see him go...

Mcgrath always gives his all and usually plays on the best opposition player. I thought he did alright last night, but when we were getting beaten they were delivering the ball to Grant laces out, and Grant converted. Made it look like he was playing a lot worse than he was, and thats not good for a guys confidence.

Blackwell has a lot more poise and class than Bentick but will always have a smaller body. Bentick provides the real grunt that both Blackwell and Murphy lack because of their body size. I personally think that these 3 will complement each other in the long term because there are enough differences in style and class to make it difficult for opposition clubs to be able to find the right tagger for whichever one is on song at various parts of a game.

When you combine Blackwell, Murphy and Bentick with Stevens, Scotland, Carazzo, Betts and Walker, we are going to have a midfield to match it with even the great Eagles midfield in 2-3 years time.

I think you could add Russell into that mix as well. He just has that poise and polish about him that makes you think he could be a pretty good player at AFL level. Add that to his speed and his ability to kick off both legs and we're starting to see why he was taken as a first round pick.

was at the game, and I must say that young Blackers looked VERY good last night, and was especially pleasing seeing that it was only his 3rd game. His goal was brilliant-has so much poise and looks to have a great footy brain.

I look forward to seeing him develop even more in the seniors. Hopefully he can hold his spot in the seniors and perform very well. Hope he turns out to be a very good player-looks as though, even at this early stage, he has all the tools necessary to make it in the AFL.

Well done Blackers, keep the good work up :thumbsu:

blackwell's performance last night oozed class. how good was he early especially through the middle :thumbsu:

Really think there is no room for Bentick long term unless he improves dramatically. He is far too slow and doesn't seem to have Balackwell's ability. I also feel that Blackwell will develop into an inside player anyway. He has got the makings of a tough body very much like his dad. Already he has a bit of fire in him and should prove to be a class midfielder.

Only thing that Russell lacks is his tackling, opposition players are able to walk through his tackles, maybe a few extra sessions with libba might fix it, but i agree he has a bright future, blackwell seems to have bulked up alot and for a guy playing his 3rd game he looks very good.
