Richmond is understood to have significant space under the salary cap – in the realm of seven figures – for next year, which is room they began making years ago to be able to position for free agency.
Its actually a good read generally, but I think this paragraph needs to be taken with a grain of salt. So far we have lost King and Jacko, who were on decent coin, but nothing stellar, so it comes down to how much of that $1m is genuinely for a FA.
I suspect a fair bit of it will be used to retain our kids (we have a wave coming through for new deals in 2015), and some front ending may occur.
Remember while we have $1m now, we need that $1m to remain available for the next 3-5 years if we genuinely want to buy someone in.
Also the guy is a drip, because the only FA off memory even attracting discussions for big coin if Frawley, and I cant see us chasing him. If the cap gap is to be used, it will be for a trade IMO
