Hi Guys,
Pardon the intrusion. Just wondering what the go is with Ben Darrou being delisted?
I remember seeing his pre draft videos and he looked quite promising.
I suspect he simply hasn't developed as the club would have liked.

By all accounts his attitude was good --good preparation for games, willingness to work on his short-comings, and a good desire for the contest.

He is apparently a quiet bloke, and they wanted him to be a bit more aggressive on the field.

Other than that I never heard any specific criticisms of Darrou that would suggest he couldn't make it at AFL level.

So all-in-all I think it was just not being able to take the next step to break into the senior team.

I really think it's that simple.

I think Darrou had been on the rookie list for the maximum allowed time.

Showed a bit, played good, aggressive footy, but probably a bit short for a key position, and a bit slow for a flanker.

Well technically Ellis was a 2nd rnd pick if all being equal.:D
Understand where your coming from but thats something GWS would want for WHE.
I'd do it.But thats me.lol
Are you counting him as 2nd rounder cos of pre listed kids??

3rd year player makes AA squad is an amazing effort and worth more then WHE who despite talent hasn't put it together like Brando.

Players can be fit without having the endurance to run through the midfield though.
IIRC correctly Arnot has tested really well in endurance testing, I could be wrong so I will have to back that up. I know a game of football can be different that distance running but he clearly has endurance ability going by testing. My view is he tries really hard to impact every contest when he plays, which shows when he is sucking up air. I made a comparison to Grigg who I honestly don't think has ever run flat-out in a game, very one paced. If he could be given a role where his focus becomes the player not the ball I think he would excel. Just my two cents though.

Yep, his height is his real issue (190cm). Couldn't ask more from him at VFL level. Rarely beaten one on one, despite often giving away height, and showed some ability to provide rebound with neat disposal skills. Sadly for him, the trend is moving towards 200cm KPP's. He's just too short to find a role at AFL level being a 190cm full back.

Good Delistings in the fact they probably weren't gonna make it.

I liked Helbig but for whatever reason never came on.

I don't think this will be the last of the Delistings.

Yeah fair enough. I think when Grigg came to us he definitely improved our side so I reckon he has been good value. But I agree that as we have improved he has slipped down the order a bit and we need to find upgrades for us to get better.

No doubt Grigg has served a role.. but I feel now Ellis has assumed that role and playing Grigg as a 'run with' player has clearly failed...

Where we are as a side compared to GWS,Ellis should outperforming WHE on a more consistant basis atm.I just think WHE has far more upside and X factor that we need.

Clearly not good enough for that sort of role. Fact is we obviously don't even see him as being capable of playing a HBF/3rd tall role, or we would've kept him on. Strikes me as a bit of a poor man's Matty Scarlett or Mal Michael type. Not as attacking as Scarlo, but beat his opponent first, and provide some attacking run out of defense second.

The others will likely be out on trade table. No one was giving us anything for the guys we got rid of.

I completely agree that no AFL club is gunna give him the gig on Tippett, or Charlie Dixon. Or even Ben Griffiths. Bigger and bigger KPF means bigger and bigger KPD.

Having said that, I think I read that he kept Joe Daniher goalless last year, and he did ok against Sepncer White during the bits of the Sandringham game that I saw, so Darrou handles his lack of height admirably at VFL level.

And? Don't undervalue Ellis' efforts because we are better. Big part of the reason we won 9 in a row. Very few 3rd year players make AA even in good teams

Fair to say an Ellis "type" is easier to find/replace than a WHE "type". WHE strikes me as a potential to be Nat Fyfe... with foot skills.

In general:

A player cannot be traded in the same season that a contract extension has been signed by that player, unless it is signed off by the AFL.

As Vickery signed earlier in the year, the earliest we can trade him is 2015, as per the AFL regulations.
