And? Don't undervalue Ellis' efforts because we are better. Big part of the reason we won 9 in a row. Very few 3rd year players make AA even in good teams
Not undervaluing Ellis great year,But with what you get from Ellis now is what you'll get in 10ys(not a bad thing),But as i said at the start we lack that extra matchwinner which IMO WHE is that type of player.

Fair to say an Ellis "type" is easier to find/replace than a WHE "type". WHE strikes me as a potential to be Nat Fyfe... with foot skills.
Similar above his head but nowhere near Fyfe on the inside.

Brando types are not easy. A guy who will rack up 30 touches most games, rarely wastes it (at least in our 9 game streak) can get forward kick a few goals and will continually run hard to provide an option for teammates.

He still has a lot of improvement in him too. Needs to learn to go more inside to deal with tags as well as go from a 10+ goals per year to 20+ and work on his tackling and defensive ability.

With Stephenson going, I'd love the club to look at someone like Darcy Cameron or Isaac Conway as a rookie. Get them on the list and develop them, whilst trading for someone like Grimley or Lowden as insurance as they are ready to go, so it gives us a fall back if Hampson gets injured in the VFL, and we would then not have to rely on Conway or Cameron.

Think you under estimate how much improvement Brando has. He will learn a lot about playing inside over summer and needs to get forward more to go from a 10 goal a season player to 20 goal a season player.

Anyway I will take 10 years of Ellis racking up 30 touches and AA squad nominations and try and find a WHE is the draft.

Isn't this the line people were using after the Carlton loss last year? There's no excuses next year. I am proud of the way we pulled ourselves together to make the 8 but this shit needs to stop. If we make the 8 next year and we dont win Harwick and other on the staff need to go.
No reason the same line cant be used 2 years in a row....

We have Soldo as a developing ruck. Conway is a poorly skilled mid with a poor tank.

Senior list - Aaron Edwards, Brad Helbig, Brett O’Hanlon
Rookie list - Todd Banfield, Ben Darrou, Orren Stephenson, Cadeyn Williams
Retired - Daniel Jackson, Jake King

from the website, nothing overly surprising. 9 is a lot of spaces to fill. would say 3 from Nd and 2 FA

the rookie list has been cleaned out, be interesting to see how they fill it - mature or young/ unproven

Spot on. I heard from someone who would know, foley was on close to what lids is on. You got to remember when we resigned him, all thought he was due for a huge lift as he was tracking way up wards. Its like if Miles has another great year and we resign him early, then he has major leg issues. We do have salary cap space now that wont effect us next year signing martin, lids and co. We are in a lot better place salary wise, thanks to Dan.

Myself, I would be aggressive. I would go to Shiel and GWS and offer our First round and a player like Batch or Mcdonough for him. Its a bit overs but a win/win for both clubs.
If we trade McDonough (+ our second rounder if necessary) to Adelaide for their 1st round pick, we could trade one of our 1st round picks + Grimes for Shiel; that way we could still draft a fairly early pick like Laverde and - at the same time - bag Shiel.
Not sure how realistic that sounds but I think Adelaide are fairly interested in bringing McDonough back to SA and Shiel has his connections with Choco (plus he should be pretty happy to leave Western Sydney for his hometown if we offer him a decent contract which we can). Also, GWS should jump on a tall defender like Grimes.

No chance that deal will happen

He's had how many games? You will be fighting for a second round pick for McD IMO

You'd think Elton will get another year in defense, I think tigs2010 said it a few weeks ago in that Elton is finally learning to play reasonable football down back because it's easier for him to follow another player, he's a big boy but was lost up forward.
hope we can hold onto him good signs playing in defence this year. hope he can improve and push chaplin out soon.

I will probably get smashed for this but if we are going to push our time table forward..this year instead of next year to get Shiel. I would offer GWS at best our first rounder and conca for Shiel. Shiel is exactly what we need. A future leader, with elite talent who will further add to Cotchin, Martin and co. I would try maybe to get a second rounder back from gws as well if we can. We would have to offer something like that to be a chance tbh.

That's exactly what I thought, but there was a rumour going around a week or two ago that Adelaide was pretty keen.
I don't dismiss that they are keen, but thats to get him, not to downgrade a first round for him

Remember this is a club that lost their first round last year, they won't be messing around with it

You touch on a important part with our rookie list. It looks like we fill it with the odd kid/prospect and then add mature types as insurance for injury, then every two years...keep those that work and delist the rest.
