The focus on specific players is interesting, but wrong, IMO.
So:
a
. Is there anyone on our list who can become a Breust/Gunston/Betts/Ballantyne? Actually, we need two, to provide backup.

b. If not (as I would argue) then what's our plan to get two of these types from trading or the draft? We have cap space so who's out there we can target?[/

This...I wholeheartedly agree with
With Jake King gone...pretty much without him in 2014 we have not had the forward pressure that a clever small forward can create...we were exposed badly by relying on talls to get the job done

Hope we go all out and trade for a Ballantyne, Betts, Breust type of player...ready to go and recruit another in the draft

MaDonna is not that type of player...not wiry, slippery enough...and we don't have any on the list to do the job

Not our club, but on AW they were discussing this with Ratten and he and Matthews both said it comes from the coach. Said the job sucks, but its best being direct and the player deserves to hear it from them
Yeah i wouldnt like the job of telling some young bloke who is probably a decent young man and trained his arse off to try and get into the side that "sorry mate weve decided to not keep you on at the club". would be a tough day and a few frothies required after work i imagine.

this is why i'm not a fan of batch, goes missing hardcore.
He had a couple of dud games this year, but nowhere near as bad as this. FWIW he was a delist for me at the start of the season, but I've been surprised by his improvement.

FWIW Chaplin who apparently was worse than Batch has 9 possies, 4 marks, and 2 tackles

Western Bulldogs
2014 Free Agents

Adelaide Crows
Jason Porplyzia

Carlton
Jarrad Waite - The enigmatic forward is back in favour at Visy Park after a big finish to 2014, but reports have indicated the Blues are only offering a one year contract and the Kangaroos have offered two or even three years.

Collingwood
Tyson Goldsack - Port Adelaide are reportedly circling the versatile defender with a big three-year deal.

Essendon
Leroy Jetta - Has quit the Bombers as of 7/9/14.
Dustin Fletcher

Fremantle
Luke McPharlin

Hawthorn
Brad Sewell

Melbourne
James Frawley - Contract talks on hold. Linked to Collingwood and Geelong. As good as gone it seems.

North Melbourne
Michael Firrito

Port Adelaide
Tom Logan

St Kilda
Clint Jones - Delisted.
James Gwilt - Delisted.
Sam Fisher

Sydney Swans
Ryan O’Keefe - Delisted.
Nick Malceski - Contract talks on hold as of July 22.
Adam Goodes

West Coast Eagles
Sam Butler

Western Bulldogs
Shaun Higgins (Restricted) - Contract talks on hold for the injury prone Bulldog. Carlton reportedly circling.
Matthew Boyd

TBH not many on this list blowing sunshine up my skirt
Goldsack is almost certain to stay at Collingwood, Fisher, Butler & Boyd have resigned with SK, WC & WB respectively.

From all reports Higgins is as good as gone to Carlton & Geelong will get Frawley.

The likes of Sewell & McPharlin will either retire or resign with their clubs for one more year.

Slim pickings indeed.

The team won't be changing dramatically at all.

Free agency
Imo the only player that is A. likely to leave their club and B. Could have an immediate impact is James Frawley, and it all but seems he will be at the cats next year (which infuriates me, how the f*** can they get him and not us?)

Trading
What do we REALISTICALLY have in terms of currency? We'll have late picks and won't give up any of our 'core' players that would achieve a valuable return.

Our team just simply needs to get better and we need to be patient and aim at getting the next big free agent whether it be next year or the year after. Don't expect anything massive to occur this offseason, purely because there's nothing massive we can afford/have to give up. This off season should be focused on bolstering the coaching (recruiting, midfield/forward/development coaches esp.) department significantly, as it's something that could make a positive change for next year.

Knowing these aren't the final delistings and the final cull is still to come.. what are peoples thoughts on Arnot as a tagger if he is kept on?
Some people might say he has no tank but I don't believe that to be true, he is actually a rather fit person. He tries his heart out which is why he looks cooked most times, doesn't put a half assed effort like Grigg. I feel his trouble when he steps up to AFL is finding the ball when he is in the middle. Seems a little lost at stoppages. He could be a player that thrives on that run with role?

Thoughts?
Jake King role?
