Isnt it funny how the Cats can get Danger in PSD but we need to sell the farm to take Motlop of their hands.

Think Richmond too should excercise the right to use the PSD.
Agreed but lol neither will go to the PSD. AFL dosent really run that way.

I think the reasoning behind it is two fold:
If Danger goes it's to one club. Geelong.
If Motlop goes there's a good chance you won't be the only club in it.

Secondly, we have a million and half plus change available waiting for Dangerfield. Not many clubs if any would.
The expectation is that Motlop might go for 700+ and that many clubs before Richmond could afford that.

Also at the end of the day if it all goes ****y for the Cats we can get something - i.e. unders for Motlop. It would suck but we take it.
It gets harder for the Crows if they knock back a compo pick (of say pick 10) and then try to squeeze 2 x first rounders or Motlop and a first rounder out of the Cats. We don't have Dangerfield already so it's not a net loss if we don't end up with him.

I know people keep mentioning Vickery's name as trade bait but I think that he's been a beast the last few games and personally I'd rather he stays.
Vickery won't be going anywhere

Just had a look through the recent trade history as thats usually a far superior guide to trades then reading bigfooty fan boys.

Guys i would consider in a similar mould to Motlop

Travis Varcoe - Mitch Clark and Harry O so the equivalent of mid 20's pick
Christensen - pick 21
Vince - 23
Wellingham - pick 18
Tambling - end of first rounder
Sherman - end of first rounder
Lovett - pick 16
Burgoyne - Mark Williams and pick 9

Going by history they keep falling in that 15-early 20's picks (similar to how unproven talls or a ruckman constantly fall between 20-35). Our first is enough to get the job done.

Oh and Yarran is nowhere near as good as any of those guys listed he is in that next level of Mitch Mortons (when he came to us), Ryce Shaws, Farran Rays, Josh hills ect... who are worth 30-50 picks

Shows how low you could push though
I see it more as the upper echelon for Yarran then how low you could get Motlop. i would say we will have a pick from 13-16 depending on FA compo. That's enough for Motlop and I'd honestly be surprised if Geelong played hard ball about it as they are easy to deal with (along with us).

The only way motlop will end up at Richmond is if he nominated Richmond . Interestingly it's the same with danger, he will only end up at the cats if he nominated them .

It's actually exactly the same .

If those players nominate those clubs , both clubs , the cats and the Tigers will get their targets for unders .

That's just the way it works

Even mature age selections in the draft go around that pick.

Lewis Jetta = Pick 14.
Isacc Smith = Pick 19.

Carlton will probably let Yarran go for a packet of cigarettes at this point in time. Fortunately we can afford that, and will most likely oblige rather than sell the house for Motlop.
Then Yaz will steal the ciggies go to brissy and smoke him with his mate Robbo ;)

Yarran is contracted isn't he? Carlton won't be taking unders for him at all when they can wait until next year and let someone pick him up as a free agent. All clubs will know what he's capable of, they won't care about his form this year at all.

Super interesting point you raise! As you say why trade him now for 25 when the AFL will give them pick 5 for him next year if someone throws enough coin his way.

No one will pay Yarran that much. At most he'd be a second round pick for Carlton which assuming they end up in a similar position next year will be low to mid 20's. All I'd be paying for him this year is a pick around 25-30.
