Short and Butler???
Do you want to trust the future of our forwardline to a pick 67 and a rookie who both haven't played a single game of AFL. (Has Butler even played VFL?)

We need to constantly be improving our team. Frankly speaking, we don't kick enough goals. Our solid defense has kept us in it this year but we are going to need to have a strong offensive game when our backline isn't holding up so well. We have the lowest points for in the top 8. Doesn't even need to be Thomas. We should be targetting goal kickers in the off-season.

We could also play a few who were pretty good at kicking goals in their junior days who were 1st and 2nd round picks ;)

I believe draft position is irrelevant once your in the system. The talent short showed in the VFL before getting his season ending injury was quite remarkable. Butler was the same prior to his injury, especially in the western bulldogs nab challenge game. Will be good to see him back in a couple of weeks.

Agree we should be looking for players that can improve our list in regards to forwards and all parts of the ground for that matter, may that be through trade opportunities. Or through the draft Like st kilda did with lonie. With players such as Daniel Rioli, Callum ah chee, Hisham Kerbatieh, Daniel Turner, Jade Gresham (could play more forward at AFL level), etc available. However in saying that, still can't neglect the players already on the list such as short, butler, Lennon, ect.

Lindsay hack Thomas was drafted in the fourth round at pick 53 in 2006.
Dan Butler was drafted in the fourth round at pick 67 in 2014. 2 more teams entered the comp since 2006 too btw...
Luke Dahlhaus, Jeffy Garlett, Luke Bruest, Jarryd Blair and Robin Nahas were drafted as rookies.
Eddie Betts was picked up in a 2004's preseason draft.
The only small forward that's warranted a first round pick has been Cyril Rioli.
I'd back Dan and Shorts to become good small forwards.

Thread on the rumours board saying Jetta may be on the move at year's end. I reckon we'd be on him like white on rice. Swans need KPDs, trade for Astbury?
They would see that as a risk however if Astbury becomes what we all know he could be, Swans could win out in that trade. Plus Astbury is younger so they will get his services for longer.

I would do that trade but I doubt the Swans fans would think its fair, even though it has the potential to be a win for them.

Sorry but watching Astbury on saturday.Due to injuries he has lost his agility. He has a turning circle and speed of a mack truck.Feel sorry for him. With abit of luck he would be where Chaplin is now.

Not the swans fan's that need to be convinced. If the list management team see Dave as a successor to Richards and Grundy they'll take it and they are the best in the league in recycling players.

Agility can be improved in the off seasons won't happen in 1 but "IF" he can stay injury free for a long enough period of time agility can come back.
Speed is another issue though.

Thats the problem though,At the Trade table on face value he's not worth that much due to injury.Put it this way what would we pay for Astbury draft pick wise knowing his current form/condition?

I would pay a 2nd rounder but closer to the end. We gave a 2nd for Hampson so I wouldn't be against paying a 2nd for a defender where if he turns injury form around has the potential to be a very solid player down back.
The plus we have is when Rance was out Injured Astubury performed extremely well as the number 1 defender. He does have runs on the board.
Also we need to keep in mind Jetta has 3-4 years of good footy ahead of him Astbury has 6-7

ive watched him from day one and he was never agile.yes has got even slower which is a worry.Elton really needs to replace Chaplin, but i would be looking outside for a replacement if he doesn't show anything.
Dave reads the ball /game well, but hes slow getting to do what he needs to do physically.
he's the opposite to my wife:DDave has a good brain ,poor body:$
